Re: Piles of Bridges

Bozo, A most enjoyable ride. Good chat with Water Mark (Water Mark?), Nannup Nick and you at Bakers Hill. Historic information on local bridges I have been riding, driving and walking across, as well as one I used to dive off (Garrett Road - a long time ago) was very informative. Many thanks, Raider...

Re: Snowflake ride Thursday 18th Nov.

Howdy all, About that metal "thingmajig" that I found on the cylinder head of the R18 - lodged on top next to the casing... Turns out it IS a part off the R18! I took the bike in for a global recall. The "thingmajig" turned out to be part of the right-side rear view mirror securi...

Re: Swampy’s Nannup overnighter…

Riders, I did a run trial down to Ballingup and on to Nannup today - see route below. Took under four hours Kalamunda DOME to Ballingup - steady, non-stop riding. Surprisingly dusty on the dirt sections... The gravel sections are interspersed with black-top (exit) roads. There are tricky dirt sectio...

Swampy’s Nannup overnighter…

Riders - off the beaten track, I plan on heading off from the DOME in Kalamunda 8:45am on the Saturday morning for the ride to Nannup. There will be quite a bit of open dirt road riding, including south to Dwellingup, then on to Collie and then to Ballingup for a coffee & pie break. From there, ...

Re: Raider's Shear Misfortune

Bozo, The Dunlop D606 covered 2,500 km, including approximately 1,000 km on the dirt. Standard road pressures used throughout - too lazy to drop pressures for the dirt sections... Also, the Wiluna fuel resulted in the DR650 running very rough and consuming approximately 20% more fuel that 95 RON. Su...

Re: Border Run: August

Nurzo, The Breakaways turnoff is approximately 120km easy of Hyden. It is a small dirt track on the south side of the Norseman Road. You will head around a sweeping left-hander, up a bit of a rise and on top is the turn-off on the right. It was recently re-signposted but ... The track meanders south...

Re: Border Run: August

Howdy, All being well (not wet) I plan to head out through Hyden and camp at The Breakaways on Thursday evening. On Friday the plan is to head through to Norseman, on to Balladonia and get to the camp somewhere near the start of the 90 Mile Straight by late afternoon. I hope that a few days of sunsh...

Re: Desert Raid 2021, Well 5, Canning Stock Route - Sat 14 A

Digger,

Thanks for linking to the very useful heads-up from AdvRider Josh.

Looking forward to the run north from Perth.

With a bit of luck the Desert Raid stickers will this year be available at Well 5 to add to your collection!

Cheers,

Raider

Re: BMW R 1150 R

Howdy Koos, Haha! Your new twin-spark boxer is still in the break-in period. Should be good after about 50,000 km. Change the rear wheel bearing at about 85,000 km and the shocks (standard replacement) about then too... Repeat every 85,000 km and your 1150 should be trouble-free. However, the odomet...

Re: Nannup Air Head Ride!!

Swampy, Thank you. I am getting excited about the possibilities. Just one more question. What about someone who turns up on a flash liquid-cooled in-line 2, 4 or 6 - without a helmet... Would that count as an AIRHEAD participant? Please advise. Thanks, Raider

Swampy, Does the R18 count as an AIRHEAD? The heads ARE most definitely in the air... Please advise. Thanks, Raider

Sunday 11 February 2001

Remembering Gunna and Rob... On a very hot Sunday morning five riders, including members from the BMWMCCWA, headed off for a day ride. Only three returned home that day. Two collided head-on into each other along Nanga Brook Road, just east of the Scarp Road intersection. The fateful Sunday was 11 F...

Re: Something about Tyres

Howdy Swampy,

Carry a small piece of gaffer tape to cover the offending flashing orange triangle - an especially useful fix at night.

I assume the bike was handling beautifully throughout?

Cheers,

BMW R18

Greetings, Gone through the first tank of fuel on R4DR, my R18 - 280km… No dirt. I could start with the comparisons right here but there is no point. No point trying to compare this motorcycle with any other BMW. Most of the local kilometres covered have been focused on learning requisite nuances to...
