Picked up a bad dose of Bozo Lycra Magnetism today when I bowed to Mary's wishes to take a look at the new Elizabeth Quay in Perth.
Drove to South Perth and made use of our free transport passes to catch the ferry into Perth so as to avoid parking problems and was so glad I did.
Most of the new Quay so called highlights and pedestrian/cycle bridge was either blocked completely or made very difficult to access by major barriers erected all around the precinct much to the dismay of most of the visiting general public and tourists wanting to look at our beloved Emperors ugly concrete monument to himself.
The whole of Riverside Drive was also closed to traffic which also included Mounts Bay Road to the University of WA which must have caused major traffic jams and chaos in the CBD.
WHY? Because some bright spark had thought that Elizabeth Quay would a good place to start and finish "Bicycle Time Trials" on a Friday with the main route along these major arterial roads blocked to all traffic.
Bozo would have been delighted and utterly in his element attempting to lead and navigate a ride through all the obstacles and hundreds of lycra clad individuals swanning around all over the area
Had a quick bite to eat and beat a hasty retreat back to the ferry and to the relatively blissful peace and quiet of the South Perth Foreshore and home.
May try it again in 12 months time..........Maybe??

LYCRA MADNESS
"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains.
Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

I was in a car yesterday with a fellow club member trying to commute from Autoclassic to visit a third club member in Nedlands. On leaving AC driveway I said to my passenger 'this might be a good chance to get some glimpses of Liz Quay'. Yeah right. What a debacle! I managed to quickly extricate myself from the Causeway 'carpark', and thinking it was a Riverside Drive issue only, promptly dropped myself into the Mounts Bay Road 'carpark'. A few illegal turns later I got myself onto Thomas Road only to come to a stop somewhere near SCGH due to the Stirling Hwy T junction 'carpark' at the Uni. @#%@. An hour after leaving AC I'm finally at Nedlands. Mere mortals would taken longer. But I was furious that we hadn't ridden our bikes (the type that requires the Cordura uniform not lycra).
Cue the login button. Digger will now chime in to tell us about carefree cycling in his cotton shorts with no traffic on the back roads of VietBodia or wherever he is now.

Sorry to hear about your bad case of BLM. Your diagnosis is unusual in that normally you need to be on a two wheeled vehicle in the hills to contract the disease.
If you are now predisposed to BLM then I suggest you remain indoors on Sunday April 3 when 2,200 lycra clad riders will have their logic cognition function displaced by adrenalin whilst riding five abreast on the dams run.
The most common disease in South Perth is Hills Parking Grabbers Syndrome where all of the parking bays on the foreshore are taken up by gravel dust covered four wheel drives. This disease is passed on within families particularly down the male line and is also known as Hills Parking Sons Disease.
