R1200GS Insurance

Post by Laws »

Any suggestions on who is best (cheaspest) to use for insuring a 2010 R1200GS.

Just traded the 2006 R1150GSA which was insured with Swann for $221pa, they want $521 for the 2010 R1200GS.
Cheapest I have found is SGIO at approx $400.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I'm not always convinced that "cheapest is always best" and on this occasion I didn't ring around, I simply went with Shannons for my (2008 GS1200) mainly because I had heard no negative remarks about them.
I am currently experiencing their service as I recently had an "incident" on mine.
They arranged pick up and delivery to the repairer of my choice and the the quote for repairs ($15K) is with Shanons. I plan to meet with the asessor to discuss "where to from here".
I would like the bike back in the same condition as it was prior to the "off" so some items that have been listed as requiring replacement (handguards, engine & tank crash bars and the like) I would be quite happy keeping the originals as I intend to continue "Adventure Riding", and this will obviously reduce the size of the claim etc. 8)
I am told if written off then I would get first "dibs" at the wreck.
I am covered for $3K of riding apperal (of which my helmet and a duffle bag will be claimed for) as the rest of my gear did it's job extreemly well, :P I also have roadside assistance recovery (provided it's near a paved road). :P
I pay $35.81 monthly automatic debit, ($429.72pa or $8.26 per week), and I am hoping the experience with them will be a good one.
So far, I am pleased with the process to date. Stay tuned.
Hope this is of some help......

Hi Davey,
I have just finished a claim with Shannons. The company themselves are fantastic, and beyond reproach Their actions, especially by the National Assesssing Manager were excellent. They will keep my business.
Be careful who you allow to repair your bike, as all is not what it seems. I would be telling the assessor that if he has had any complaints about any repairers, that you do not wish to use them. I experienced a lack of care in transporting my bike, which caused a major issue, and also found that a mechanical part had been assembled incorrectly. It is now all fixed and I cant wait to ride it back east starting Friday.
If you would like to call me to discuss this further, send me a PM and I will send you my number. I can provide you with a little inside running on how to ensure you get what you have paid for.
Cheers,
McFarkle :P

Thanks guys,
I realised that the cheapest is not neccessarily the best and have been considering the repuation of the various companies.
Shannon's website doesn't allow R1200GS to be selected, I will give them a ring. I have also heard good things about them.

Interestly I've had quotes $400 to $1800 (yes thats not a typo).

Will let you know how I go.
Cheers,
Steve

Ended up going with insuremyride.
Shannon's was just too expensive seeing I ride regularily, it was $200 more unless I chose the irregulary riding option.
