Just got this from the GS Rally page and thought I would post it up:
Riding Gear
Adventure pants & jacket (BMW Rallye suit etc). Enduro/MX pants and jersey doesn't cut it if things go pear shpaed on the road or at speed on the dirt
Gloves (every rider should have a lightweight pair of gloves, like GS or MX gloves, as well as non-bulky waterproof road gloves)
Rallye GS Pro, motocross or equivalent adventure touring boots (Road-touring boots are not suitable!!! You need something with sturdy ankle / shin protection)
Moto socks, multiple pairs
BMW Enduro or other adventure helmets are recommended (road helmets don’t provide enough ventilation for off-road riding)
Goggles (check that they fit inside your helmet before you purchase)
Tinted and clear helmet visor (if not clear, you must have clear goggles in case you end up riding at night)
Hydration backpack (Camelbak) – you should carry between 1.5 - 3 litres of water with you
Sunscreen
Ear plugs
Neck gaiter or Buff – helps prevent the helmet strap from chafing and keeps your chin warm on chilly mornings
Visor and google cleaning kit (a damp cloth or baby wipes in a zip lock bag works well)
Cycling shorts – padded shorts are more comfortable to wear for long days in the saddle
On the bike
Tank bag – great way to carry all these essentials to make your day more comfortable
Hat
Sunglasses
Torch or headtorch & spare batteries
Survival essentials – matches or lighter, emergency blanket, rope, whistle etc.
First Aid kit
Eyedrops
Mobile phone and charger – mobile reception is generally pretty good with Telstra but for sure there will be times during the day when you will be out of mobile range, sometimes for a few hours.
Satellite phone?
2 way radio? – Push To Talk button on bars is useful to talk amongst your riding group
Camera
Tool bag – see below for contents
Tools
*You should at least have the tools needed to remove both wheels to fix a flat tyre, or have someone assist with fixing a flat tyre. Each rider is expected to be self sufficient, however the BMW Roadside Assistance support vehicle will be available for any mechanical or rider breakdowns!
Bumbag or tool roll to carry all the stuff.
Spare tubes (even for bikes with tubeless wheels, in case you damage a sidewall that a tubeless repair kit can't repair)
Tubeless puncture repair kits
Tyre pump / CO2 Cartridges
Tyre gauge
Tyre levers
Axle nut tools
Range of spanners
Screwdrivers
Torx bits
Cable ties, duct tape, tie wire and rags
Lighter
Leatherman type multi tool
Spare brake and clutch lever (model specific)

Fuel hose x 1 metre long – handy if you need to siphon fuel
Hose clamps
Spare spark plugs
Tow rope
Spare foam pre-filter (easy change on 1200's if conditions are dusty)
Metal putty (for repair of engine cases or other metal repairs)
Luggage or panniers – carried on the luggage truck each day
As you would be aware it is mandatory that you leave your luggage with us to carry on the luggage truck each day. We want you to enjoy your riding safely without being weighed down with luggage. Smaller soft bags will be allowed to be fitted during the event (tank bag and small rear bag), but no hard panniers.
For checked in luggage truck items there will be size and weight conditions that will be strictly enforced (no larger than 55cm x 25cm x 25cm) and no more than 2 pieces. If you require luggage transport for more than this (ie. sleeping bags, tents, swags, etc.) just call or email us and we will add it for you. Extra luggage is $20 per rider.
You will need to transport your luggage to and from your accommodation to the luggage truck each day.

GPS Unit
Foam air filter kit and / or foam pre filter socks only. It may be dusty on some roads so be prepared
Valve cover protectors for boxer engines
Off-road (wide) footpegs

Knobby tyres - order them on the BMW Safari website and the Tyre Support team can fit them for you
Heavy duty tubes (tube models)
Handlebar risers (only required for tall riders where the bars are too low when standing. Excessive risers are to be avoided; 5-10mm is usually adequate)
