Went for a ride on the river to fill in the afternoon. Bangkok is a modern and busy city but you don't have to venture far before you realise there are still people doin' it tough. This part of the riverfront seemed modern and new...

...and yet 400 metres away you are greeted by this. Probably the same as it was in the first half of the 20th century.

From here I start heading due east toward the Cambodian border. I'll leave tomorrow (Saturday).
Distance cycled to date - 1,428km.

I've ridden thru several police checkpoints since being in Thailand. Here, these guys check vehicle emissions on some of the older trucks that use the roads.

Image
Maybe the coppers should do more emission checks...this was the smog this morning. Not helped by locals who burn leaf litter and rubbish most mornings.

Kerbside Kentucky Fried...11 different herbs and spices with just a hint of roadside dust. This chicken usually has a 'crunch' to it when eaten. The same crunch you get when you eat sand. It pays to peel the skin off first.

Image
Once you leave the main roads and pick up the lesser roads the scenery changes as does my mood. A lot more relaxing and enjoyable.

Don't the locals call the well being and facial expression you get from travelling along the paddies a "rice mile".

Great trip.. vicariously enjoying the report.

I could take the shortest possible route to the next day's accomodation which would mean a 80 km ride or...

Image
...I could extend my day by a further 5 km and have a far more interesting journey. The next nights accomodation could be interesting...have a look at 'destination'. I love surprises.

I am three days from the Cambodian border.

Distance cycled to date - 1,538.4km.

Love Is Fantasy Resort with prices for a standard room from $18 to $108..seems like you can get a few extras.

No one has been game to put up a review on TripAdvisor yet. Very interested in how you get on.

I use Hotel.com to pre book some of the accn. They had it as $24AUD. I didn't know about any extra's. I base most of my choices on price (because I'm a tight wad)... I hope I get the Super Heroes themed room lol.

Just checked availability.

Sadly it probably will be finding Nemo. Hope you are not allergic to fish.

Hope your missus doesn't check your website browser...she'd be a little concerned.
Whatever the theme, it would make for an interesting twist in the next MDP.

I survived my night in 'Love Is' Fantasy Resort although I did sleep with one eye open in case Batman leapt out of the closet.

Image
I guess 'Love Is' anywhere you can find it whether it be with Nemo, Ku Fu Panda, Captain Jack (Sparrow) or your favourite super hero. Actually, they had me in a Unit 'out the back' with all the other normal folk.

I passed this sign the following day and started to fear that a general theme was emerging. I kept going and thought it safer to give this one a miss.

Image
I passed this sign and realised, coincidently, I had been to all these places in the last year or two. Made me realise that I'm spending my retirement productively.

My office today (Thursday)...could be a scene from anywhere in Outback Australia.

Thanks for putting us out our suspense on your survival of the resort.

I take it out the back means you occupied the windmill or do they keep that for travellers that each pay their own way.

Did I mention I use backroads where possible? Usually longer (today by 150%) but far more enjoyable.

Image
Morning tea...two of these odd shaped bananas for less than $1AUD. Cooked in the 'jacket' over low coals and then kept at temperature using steam. Delicious.

Image
Caged fighting cocks...kept in the sun just before a fight cause it makes them more aggressive (apparently).

I cross the border into Cambodia tomorrow morning (Friday). This border crossing has a reputation for crooked Immigration officials (from the Cambodian side) and scammers paradise.
Distance covered to date - 1,840.4km.
