Pay It On

So I've heard about this pay it on concept and seen it in practise in a few sites including the ADV forums. I thinks it's a good concept and something we could run within the club. I am not sure of the right rules but I think it would be something like this. A member posts and item that they are willing to give away, this should be something likely to be of practical value to someone else in the club. The first person to claim the item can take it. They must collect it or pay for postage, but thats all they pay. Then the obligation to pay it on sits with them and they should if they can (but not mandatory) post an item on the list. Obviously other people can post items up in the interim they don't need to wait. Items must be marked off the list when claimed. To kick it off I will start a thread in the members forum and post up an item, lets see how it goes.

"Pay It Forward" is not a modern concept, it's history dates back to around three hundred years BC. Noted polymath, Benjamin Franklin sums up the concept:

"I do not pretend to give such a deed; I only lend it to you. When you meet with another honest Man in similar Distress, you must pay me by lending this Sum to him; enjoining him to discharge the Debt by a like operation, when he shall be able, and shall meet with another opportunity. I hope it may thus go thro' many hands, before it meets with a Knave that will stop its Progress. This is a trick of mine for doing a deal of good with a little money"

If it is to work for the club, it will only succeed if members can control their avarice and embrace the core concept.

I have numerous pairs of gloves, boots and bike related items (see tread in Public Forum/Classifieds that I will put up if a "Pay It Forward" forum is established.
