BP Service Disapointment

Had an unfortunate experience today in Armadale after enjoying a wonderful enjoyable 300k ride in the country on the GS.

Pulled in to the BP station cnr South West Hwy and Dickens Place Armadale on my return too suburbia, A Service Station I have used on a regular basis for the last 2 years to refuel my bike. May I point out that I have always been polite and greeted the attendent with a "good Afternoon or Good Morning" when paying my bill.

The pump did not activate and a female attendent came to the door and yelled at me to remove my helmet. I refused to do so and replaced the hose.

I then approached the lady attendent and the Manager and quite calmly pointed out that I had utilised their station on a regular station for the past 2 years without a problem before and was disapointed that I was being treated this way.

I was informed that I was still required to remove my helmet. I requested an explanation as to why after 2 years of taking my hard earned without a request to remove my helmet, Had their policy changed?

The answer was "We don't know who you are"??

I then asked if I was someone wearing a "Burka" and driving a car wanting to refuel my car would I have been asked to remove the "Burka" before being served?..................No Answer!!

I informed them very politely, .....................................Contrary to one club members opinion of me that I am a "rude" person that they had just lost themselves a faithful regular customer and I would not be utilising their services again.

My question to you guys is, Have any of you experienced this type of treatment in your travels or am I being too precious like some of our AFL players recently?

P..... Off Rider

Swampy,
Have a look at the link for a lot of different opinions on the matter....there are basically two trains of thought. I'll let you decide.

Hallo Swamp

I don't use BP at all, because they usually enforced the helmet-off rule when I started using their pumps. Not only that, they're always about 4c more expensive than the Shell or Gull, so not sure what the benefit is. John :!:

For two of the past three years I did not have a problem when I flipped up my helmet during refuelling.

I first encountered this issue at Shell Bunbury a year ago when the attendant used the PA System to give me avery loud warning "motorcyclist pump 4 will not be served until he removes his helmet". I continued to leave my helmet on at all other petrol stations including the BP at Armadale.

Around six months ago I was asked to remove my helmet at Shell South Perth after filling motorcycle there for 50 times without a problem.

I also find that it is discriminatory as the guy in the sunglasses and hoodie next to me does not get the same risk management treatment.

But as I get older the issue of helmet hair detracting from my appearance is less of a concern and like a good customer of a large corporation I meekly comply with their rules.

To me this is less of an issue than:
-Lack of motorcycle bays in Perth
-Stealing of motorcycle numberplates
-Low speed margin to be caught for speeding
-Tail gating by cagers

Swampy I have had a conversation with my local Caltex and they did express a concern that if a guy doesn't remove a helmet then the person may not hear them call over the PA. They more meant this in case of an emergency. I thought this was fair comment and was it was made politely. It isn't enforced though.
Are there any warning signs on the pumps at all?

Some very interesting and pertinent comments made guys, Thanks for your feedback and NO, There is no notice or sign requesting your motorcycle helmet should be removed at this particular Service Station.

Still annoyed though after 2 years of nothing been said from same attendents  Yes Bill I've been known to get grumpy at times, Comes with age I guess as YOU will find out soon enough

Back to filling up in Roleystone where they don't appear to be concerned about helmets.....................At least at the moment

Meanwhile looking forward to an entertaining evening watching the Wallabies thrash the Poms, A Moto GP without Lorenzo and the start of the Tour. 8)

See you at Cat's guys :P

You and Robbo both do not seem to get the concept of the British and Irish Lions.

It is only part Pom.

They insisted on taking a drivers licence from us today.
Even though we had removed our lids.
Swipped it, I didn't know it contained any data, and placed it in a cup until we filled up and paid.
Then we had to ask for it back!

Robbo

I get it, you are talking about cricket but even there the English side is England and Wales with a few chaps born in other countries.

Is the first test match being played on an oval or on the road?

What is this Chester Le Street?
