Radioman - Come and hear the travellers tales
Posted: Sun 25 Aug, 2013 9:53 pm
If you were at Catalano's on Sunday the 18th of August you may have me Mark "Radioman" Donham. He is from Portland Oregon and has been traveling the world by motorcycle since June 2011. At the moment he is riding a very well fitted out F800GS. Well Mark has kindly offered to put on a talk for members and interested folk this Thursday night upstairs in the function room of the Vic Park Hotel, 605 Albany Highway. He will bring a slide show and talk about his travels and answer any questions you may have. Having briefly met and listened to Mark I would highly recommend this to anyone who dreams or seriously things of embarking on an epic of their own by motorcycle. Mark has a natural and engaging way of telling his story that is easy and entertaining to listen to, best of all it wont cost you anything! Well with the exception of and drinks you buy at the bar.
If you would like to bring some one along that's no problem, all we ask is that you register your intention to come on the events page of the club website so that we have an indication of how many to expect.
Here are a few words from Mark, hope to see yo on Thursday night:
"Here is some basic information about my trip so far.
I started my trip from Portland Oregon on the west coast of the US, June 1st, 2011. I rode to the furthest eastern Port of the US and into the eastern parts of Canada including 1,000 gravel road through Labrador in Canada before riding south through Mexico, central America into South America (and a ship to Antarctica). With a side trip to Northern India to ride the highest roads in the world !! Then onto NZ, and the last 3.5 months in Australia. Before I continue onto Cape Town, South Africa.
The trip so far is about 130,000 KM in 20 countries and 5 continents over the last 27 months.
I will share some photos and videos from the travels so far, and hopefully answer the big questions of why someone would leave the comfort of home to Ride around the world, what bikes I have ridden (3 main bikes), some of the challenges, logistics and costs of a trip like this, and a few stories of the life on the road!
