Ivan " the wildman " Erceg, long time rider, life of the party, gentleman, and sadly missed by many. Pretty somber feeling in the bivouac tonight.

I have just ridden back to Perth after spending a week with the Safari Adventure Tour group and the race.

I was with some of Ivans close friends when we found out. Words cannot begin to describe the emotions that were felt by the group, those that knew him and the very close knit community.

At the end of the race in Geraldton all the moto and quad riders rode over the finish line together. All of the finishing motos & quads revved their engines together to the limiters (which is something Ivan used to do), then all bikes parked up forming a guard of honour. Then the Desert Motorcycle Club and his best mates carried his number plate over the finishing line.

At the Safari Bivouac - the Desert Motorcycle club did several burn outs on their trailer and several others including the winning quad joined in.

Justin Hunt the event organiser lead a very moving tribute to Ivan at the commencement of the prize giving. I can tell you there was not a dry eye in the house, myself included. A new prize category was announced to honour Ivan and it will be awarded to the highest placed novice Australian Safari competitor in every event from 2014.

regards Ewen...

Richard has just left my place,(did't want a bed) headed for Dwellingup and then down south on his way back to Adelaide. He was telling me what an awesome event it was, emotional at times but very fullfilling , he'll be back.

Ewen will have some more details and photos I'm sure.
