Xmas dinner at Maleeya's Cafe Porongurups 7th Dec 13

Post by bill9117 »

Guys this is a work in progress.
I have contacted the owner of Maleeya's Thai Cafe & Studio
They have indicated that they have the 14th and the 7th Dec ( Saturdays) available. They will do a special Xmas 5 course dinner (Thai) for us at $55/ head
Accomodation is available close-by and the Resturant owner is going to send me a e-mail with what is available when we make our booking.
He mentined a caravan park 5 minutes away and Dukes winery next door. Members will have to arrange their own Sat accommodation themselves.
He told me that 35 is probably about all they can accommodate for this function so first in first serve .
 If we want this venue then we must act ASAP as they can't hold the booking for too long as understandably this is their busy time.
So those wishing to attend this venue please indicate your interest now so I can confirm the booking Jono could you arrange a club registration site on our members only forum site.
There is plenty of info on the web using google search

A friendly Thai Restaurant at the foothills of the Porongurup National Park

Maleeya cooks her authentic dishes with Asian herbs fresh from our organic veggie garden. The Cafe has been featured 6 years in a row in the Australian Gourmet Traveller Guide.

An extensive Bamboo Garden & Nursery is situated next to the Cafe.

Our guests have the possibility of staying in our unique Studio, which is 80 meters away in a secluded area with panoramic views of the National Park and of our 135 acres organic farm with Highland Cattle.

Well done Bill

I have posted the Porongorups Event on the club website and enabled registrations.
Ive set it up to collect payment for folk attending the dinner. That way we can be fairly certain about the numbers. Set the date for Saturday the 7th of Dec.

Anyone wanting to attend is encouraged to register quickly so we can confirm the booking. In the event that the date or something else has to change your payments are fully refundable.

Well its all happening. I have spoken to Dukes winery and they would be very happy to have the club xmas party crowd around for a wine tasting at 5 till the start of the dinner next door. Any wine orders will be posted to members homes. Duke also mentioned that he can take a few tents camping on his lawn as long as its discrete as he says the caravan park down the road has some great accommodation( chalets, on site vans etc) and he doesn't want to take their business
http://www.caravanparksonline.com.au/in ... ark_id=422
We will look into hiring a bus that can move people about from their accommodation so that we can indulge in a few sherbets if we get enough people who want to use this service.
We will see what kind of interest and response we get from members and make a decision as to it being a goer or not by Thursday the 24th. There will be no point in progressing if people don't show any interest and we will not then commit to the bookings necessary for the function to occur
ALL THIS IS DEPENDENT ON MEMBERS RESPONSE SO DON'T SIT ON IT RESPOND TO THE REGISTRATION SITE ON THE FORUM

It has been decided that the 7th Dec will be the date of the annual Xmas party. Some awards will be also presented on the night

Would like to attend if the camping at the winery falls thru is the bus from the caravan park a certainty ? A 5 k walk home after a big Thai dinner and a few wines might be a bit difficult . The chalets at Maleeyas are two night minimum .

Colin I have spoken to Dukes winery ,over the road from the restaurant ,they are ok with some camping on their grounds. The Caravan park is about 5 mins away. We will be discussing the idea of hiring a bus to ferry people to and from the venue at a committee meeting we will be having once we have established that club members are ok with this as a venue for the club Xmas party .
So if yourself and others are interested at this stage let us know so we can make a booking to secure the venue which we will have to do by Thursday this week.
By indicating your interest if the plan doesn't go ahead booking registration will be reimbursed. We probably need a definite 20 registered attending to make it a goer.
We will confirm this by Friday

As I said on another part of the forum.
My understanding is that the Xmas party were meant to be very Second year town then country.
This was so people who can't travel can attend.
Question, why have all recent dinner events been held in the country?

Mike we are a city motorcycle club and most of us like to ride out in the country . We have found that most of our organised country functions have been very well attended as the ride or drive( shock horror by car ) is attractive to most of us that live in the concrete jungle .
We considered this venue to be attractive as it is a varied pleasant ride or drive, the venue has a positive track record for good food and atmosphere, it should be nice weather and a bit cooler down South and as a committee we decided that the "every second year city venue " doesn't have to be locked in stone.
The venue has been placed on this forum by the committee for members to indicate their interest.
Hope to see your name and lots of others on our registration.

Hi Mike

The every second year city/country theme is not a club rule but has been a way in which we've tried to mix things up. The Annual Dinner being the main event that we tend to plan this way.

This years Christmas do has been discussed at the last 2 GM's and as Bill points out the country venues combine a great ride and have been well supported, as well as injecting some funds and support into our country communities. If this event gets numbers committing then it will go ahead on its own merits. If the numbers are not there we can make an alternative plan for closer to home.

However, even if the Porongorups event goes ahead I think there is still scope to organise a Perth based event for everyone and to this end we would be happy to receive your ideas. Last year we had New Years Eve at the beach which went well so all suggestions considered. Why not come along to the next meeting and contribute to the plans.

At this stage we have 7 confirmed attendees for the Xmas function. If you are going to attend please put your registration in. We need to get at least 20 byThurs so we can make a booking with the restaurant.

Well guys unless we get at least another dozen up takes on the registration site this venue will be caned for the club Xmas party. We may still keep it as just a overnighter club ride for those people that are still keen to head down there. We will try and keep the booking at Maleeyas and the wine tasting.
Hopefully we will get an avalance of interest before the Thursday deadline
