Parking in Victoria Park

Post by Swampy »

Since the Victoria Park council has decided to place parking meters operable between 0800hrs and 2300hrs 7x days a week recently on Albany Highway which includes Cat's Retaurant area, Where do we BMW motocyclists now stand as the Council has threatened to start prosecuting us for illegally parking?

As I am lead to believe, It is illegal for motorcyclists to park in a car designated spot and as a consequence you may be up for a hefty fine if you are caught parking in one these spots.

With up to 30 to 40 bikes parked in the Cat's precinct on a good Sunday turnout, Vic. Park council stand to make a substantial profit from our clubs members for illegally parking and thats before they also charge us for not paying substantial parking fees!!

Where do we go from here as I for one am not going to cougth up my hard earned just to benefit a council for bringing business to Cat's and Vic Parks prosperity generally?..........And thats apart from also trying to find a designated motorcycle parking spot in that area.

Can anyone advise me as to the BMWMCC's and Cat's intentions as to a solution to this blatant rip off by another greedy counci?

Cheers Swampy

Fug em Swampy, be a rebel without a clue and park illegally, when they go to book you move your bike to the end of the line, if everyone does it the ranger will pull his head in and piss orf.

People power will prevail, no confrontation just action, keep riding around the block and re-park in front.

I agree with people power, but also in parallel writing to the Council (cc Cats) that we have an issue. If they are adamant and do start harassing us at 8h00 on a $unday morning, that we do take our $20,000 annual business to a friendlier Council.

Koos a letter has already been sent to the Mayor of VP on behalf of the club, let's wait and see what response we get.
But be advised the introductory warning only period for that section of parking by Cats has now expired and infringements are possible.

Suggest a move to a more motorcycle friendly council if a compromise cannot be negotiated - although unsure where that is? or where fee free parking is still available?

Freo have been gradually removing MC parking and also increasing parking fees. Its unfortunately a sign of the times and the economic climate

The only location with good coffee that is central and has lots of parking on a Sunday morning is the Gordon Street Garage in Gordon Street West Perth.

We would still be parking illegally in car bays at the rear of the café but I suspect that there would not be a problem.

Café Café in Subiaco has a large area of walkway next to it ...also suitable for illegal parking.

Bozo has street cred  for his ability to research a range of scenarios be it the best pie shops acessable by M/B, the best rides for a Sunday jaunt and researching and riding to every alphabetical destination in WA so fellow riders have some insight on these destinations. He also provided to the club the best means of abridging the club constitution, and many other intellectual imputs that have provided the club with positive directional progress.
Given his great ability to sus out and find solutions for many incidents and outcomes I propose Bozo is given the task of finding the ideal coffee /breakfast hangout to replace Cats for our Sunday social and pre-ride starting point rather than these random suggestions which have started to be thrown around.
If he gives us a bum steer I am sure fellow club members wags and others will surely let him know........

I get the feeling I am being indentured.

Part of the problem is getting parking near to the best coffee/breakfast cafes and the size of some of them. I recommend all of these for a good cup of coffee.

Sayers in Leederville has great breakfast but is too small to handle 40 loud exhausts.

Gill Street Café in Mosman Park is not central enough.

Il Lido in Cottesloe is too hard for parking

Epic in West Perth only has a handful of Motorcycle Bays.

Cookie Dough in George Street East Fremantle has a motorcycle mad barista but is too small.

Cioccolato in Applecross has the risk of running into the Minister for Transport

Cimbalino in Waratah Avenue has great coffee but is a little posh for us

The Little Pantry in Shenton Park has great coffee

Velvet Velvet in Kings Street has a problem with parking

We would completely fill Boucla in Subiaco

Atomic in Mends Street is more Lycra than Gortex.

The solution is simple.

We have to park in bays marked M/C.

It is not an offence to mark a bay M/C

We just need a spray can of white paint and a sheet of cardboard and mark four car bays M/C and split the fee between five bikes.

I wish to propose a new Sunday Morning Venue for the club Breakfast.

The venue is the South Perth Foreshore BBQ area adjacent to the Mends Street Jetty.

I propose a BYO situation that requires each attendee provide his/her own choice of breakfast ingrediants and a flask of Tea/Coffee/Gin.

I also propose that our esteemed Club Committee Member and "All round Good Bloke ", Bill (Fix that Tooth) be voted to prepare and cook the provided ingredients for Club Members whilst we sit back and relax in our Helinox chairs and enjoy the Perth City Skyline,Beautiful Swan River and discuss "Beaut Bavarian Bikes" and B... S... generally as we normally do on a Sunday morning, ALL this and more without having to pay rediculous parking fees. roll:

Submitted for your consideration :!:
