Australasian Safari Rally 2013 - club meeting presentation

The Australasian Safari Rally is well known in Australia but perhaps what is not as well known is the innovation that has been added to the event by Western Australia and that is the Safari Adventure Tour.
The Adventure Tour is open to only 20 aspiring riders and runs alongside the Safari Rally each year and gives riders a taste of the world class Rally Raid Experience that WA presents each year.
Our own club member Ewen MacGregor tagged along with the adventure tour last year through some stunningly beautiful and rugged parts of the state. The 2013 Safari covered more than 3000 km in seven days and ranks as one of the world's most spectacular and toughest rallies. The adventure tour partipants cover around 70 per cent of the actual race route and stages.
The illustrated talk will cover the highs of the exhilaration of a week's challenging adventure ride but also the tragic death of Safari Competitor Ivan Erceg.
The ride was research for an recent article that was published in edition 4 of the Adventure Rider Magazine. The talk will be illustrated with action photos taken by professional photographers who work at the Dakar Rally every year. Finally a brief look into the 2014 event and the new challenging route will be outlined.
