A warning for riders parking in Armadale.
Armadale Council Parking and Parking Facilities Local Law:
3.1(4) A person shall not park a motorcycle without a sidecar or a trailer or a bicycle in a parking stall un- less the stall is marked 'M/C'.
This is the Council’s ruling and it comes with a $50 fine. It’s a common practice on rides for motorcycles to share parking bays with several bikes designated as car bays and it seems they will be happy to book everyone. Makes me wonder how many other coun- cils will do the same.
It seems that the Rockingham Council also has a similar policy with a $65 fine!
This council and any others pursuing this line of ac- tion need to be brought into line. This is ridiculous!! A parking bay is a parking bay and should be for all road users that have a legally registered vehicle.
We are all, also citizens of our communities like eve- ryone else (most, if not all of us, also drive cars!), we all pay our taxes, rego and insurances, council rates etc, support our community events, schools, chari- ties and yes, our local councils ..... and many of our bikes are larger than many small engine capacity cars! So!! ,If and only if, the council provides suffi- cient, designated motorcycle parking bays in all are- as of their jurisdiction, including but not limited to, public parking areas, on street and off street parking, schools, shopping centres, council property, etc, etc, should they even think about enforcing such draconian laws. This is outright discrimination and needs to be nipped in the bud.
By riding bikes, motorcycle riders are already doing their bit to help reduce pollution, space and congestion on our roads, now they want to raise more revenue by finding other ways to fine us.??? We got to tell them to get it right/sorted or get them voted out of council! The fact we can get 3 or 4 bikes in 1 parking bay should make the councillors happy as that means more people taking up less space and spending more money in local shops and businesses.

Through the MRA and all motorcycle associations, we need to band together, get a petition going and front these establishments, demanding they overturn these ridiculous, petty, discriminatory rulings and make it very obvious that lack of action will see a backlash in the next election!
So, bikers, you all need to unite if you want some- thing to happen! If you are for something being done about this, feel free to email me. If there is adequate response, then a steering committee will need to be formed and petitions created to make it happen. My suggestion is that this action may best be served through a recognised organisation like, say, MRA but whoever it goes through, it will have to be a willing party and a united front.
Another point!! Where was the notice of intent to the public that this was even going to be discussed, let alone, become a ruling by councils that have adopted it ??? Just like politicians aren’t they—slide a motion through behind the scenes, all unnoticed, then just start slapping fines amongst the motorcycle commu- nity without any warning that the legislation even ex- ists!!! What scumbags they are
