The old hoary chestnut of which panniers would best suit my needs question?
I think that my patience has just about run out with my Touratech 43litre aluminium panniers on the 1100GS.
I lost another lid today coming along Roe Highway despite having the steel security wire on it. OK I cannot remember whether I locked the latches or not, but nevertheless with earplugs in I did not hear a thing. Remember Lefty picked up the the whole #@&!! pannier after the Xmas dinner in Beverley a couple of years ago. Same thing earplugs in, did not hear a thing!
So I'm looking for some advice please.
I know there is the soft pannier off-road school and the hard pannier off-road school in the club. If the truth be known, if Steel Pony were still making soft panniers I would definitely have a set of those too.
What do you all think? Since I got hit from behind last year which wrote my road bike off I have been using the GS on-road more than off-road.
By the way if anyone has or knows of anyone who has a lid for a Touratech pannier box please let me know as I need something in the short term before I changeover.

I bought a pair of new Steel Pony bags last year, I reckon I waited two years for them, so Digger is correct. Previously I used Andy Strapz soft bags and they are more than fit for purpose although perhaps just a little more light weight than than the SP's. Regardless of which variant you choose, neither fair well if they are subjected to gravel or bitumen abrasion. The benefit is, they don't require a Boilermaker to reshape and fit them back on the bike afterwards. Oh, and the lids don't fall off!Paddy7 wrote:G'Day Mates,

I have SW Motech pannier racks on my 650/800 which allow me to use either Andy Strapz for dirty weekends or aluminium boxes when on best behaviour.
