BMWMCCWA REPORT TO BMW CLUBS AUSTRALIA APRIL 2018
Posted: Sat 28 Apr, 2018 7:28 pm
I have submitted the following report on the past year of our clubs events, structure, rides and general goings on over the last year:
BMWMCCWA 17-18
Report of club activities and function for the last year.....
Membership has remained largely static with 197 paid up members. The demographics of the group are generally aged from early 40s- 60s with our youngest in their late 20s and we have a 83 yo who rides a R100S which he has had since new. There are generally a active group of about 50 members participating regularly in club activities with the rest remaining in the background and maybe participating occasionally. There are equal proportions of road and GS BMW BIKES OWNED BY CLUB MEMBERS. The concessional licences numbers are building up. There are quite a few members with multiple BEEMERS.
The club has big attendances on Sunday mornings for a get together, breakfast and a coffee. Both dirt and tar riders organise rides following the get together. The sealed road group generally head off covering from 3-500 kms out into the countryside with a prerequisite OF A PIE SHOP along the route somewhere. Dirt riders also organise off road adventures for their Sundays and head off out of the city to get their dirt fix.We get up to 40 + bikes some mornings and up to 15+ going for various rides.
We hold MONTHLY CLUB MEETINGS with alternating between a formal and social meetings. Attendance varies with the formal meetings getting up to 40 and the social meetings getting wives and partners along for a more social get together.
COMMITTEE: we. are somewhat depleted this year with our treasurer and magazine editor pulling the plug. The Pres has taken over the role of treasurer and has streamlined the role with his IT skills making the role less onerous and more translucent to other committee members with an accounting program he has set up.
The role of editor was decided to be dropped as members felt the various social media avenues we use communicates well with the membership. We use the web site WILD APRICOT as a public and private site. We also have a Facebook site that is well received by both members and the public. Various club events and articles get good hits on these sites.
Our technical club committee officer has organised a number of successful TUNING DAYS where members learn how to fix and work on their bikes with the depth of knowledge from club members coming to light.
We have run the regular our Xmas in July party, the annual Xmas party, a number of overnight camping rides, participated in the annual BORDER RUN , the bi-annual DESERT RAID which was held at "THE CAMELSOAK" which was about 1200 km East of the city out in the great Sandy Desert and the annual CAMP COOK-OFF which was held at the Gabyon Station out in the Murchison which was about 700 kms North of Perth. We also got invited to attend the Bencubin show which was about 600kms NE of the city A number of members rode dirt tracks and gravel roads and a few did tar to these venues which saw up to 25 members participating in each event.
In October WA hosted the GS /TS SAFARI OF THE SW OF WA.
There were a disappointing ( for the organisers) 125 participants who participated in the GS off-road and the TS sealed road event. The organisers were hoping for 200.
The route was much appreciated and enjoyed by participants and saw riders going thru some incredible scenery of the giant Karri forests of the SW of WA and ending up in the scenic wild coastal town of Albany. A number of bikes were drowned and pranged and there were a number of injuries experienced by participants but most felt the event was worthwhile and memorable.
The organisers also ran some off-road training courses on the weekend leading up to the Monday start of the event. We only had 2 major incidents over the W/E with 2 participants experiencing broken legs and other injuries. I did my hammy which upset my GS Safari participation to some degree. But the training was well instructed and beneficial.
The only gripe about the event was the low PR effort I felt the organisers put in to documenting and promoting the event. The SW of WA , it's forests and routes and the SW coastal scenery is incredibly spectacular and should have been better documented for participants and spectators to follow and have a record of the event. The event didn't get any magazine or professional video coverage at all. The organisers had a photographer running around but none of his photos have surfaced anywhere , the organisers seem to do professional videos of most of their other Safaris, but none on this one. If it wasn't for 2 BMWMCCWA members Club Pres Jono and Steve who both put together videos of the event on a amateur basis (Steve produces Mongrel Dog productions and has now done numerous M/C videos) there wouldn't have been any documentation of the event at all which is important for these events.
Currently we are about to embark on a first-aid specific to M/C accident course for situations riders may find themselves in while out for a ride. The certified course is a full day course and the club is sponsoring 12 riders $35 out of the $160/ head cost to participate on the course.
SPECIAL MENTION should go to our local dealer Auto-Classic who have been very good to our club. They have organised numerous events during the year with sausage sizzles, guest speakers, equipment sales at great prices , discounts for club members and valuable prizes for when we need to dish out prizes for club events. A good friend to BMWMCCWA.
We have a number of other great sponsors too many to name so , as a group we seem to be well regarded and respected out there as a club
And so it goes on another year and so much to do and so little time and which one has to do before one can't anymore.
