Coffee ala Berlin

BMW Motorrad Plant Tour

The decision was made to go out of my way for coffee. Somewhere completely different from our usual haunts. Not Catalano's or AutoClassic in Victoria Park. Not even the Miami Bakehouse (whichever one...).

With a timely suggestion from our illustrious Prez and the kind people at BMW Clubs Australia, I was pointed to the BMW Motorrad Plant in Berlin. This is one of the many benefits of being in BMW Clubs. The coffee was teutonically strong. (PS. Bozo and Raider, teutonic, not tectonic...)

The challenge, of course, was to find said location. With no help at all from the puzzling BMW Global website, Google found the location. Thanks Google...

A long U-7 trek across Berlin in the direction of Rathaus Spandau, exiting at Haselhorst station, and choosing the incorrect exit to the surface, of course, we eventually found the BMW Motorrad Plant Gate 1.

Then together with a group of riders/enthusiasts from all over the planet, we headed off to be indoctrinated with BMW history and philosophy prior to being allowed into the Plant.

The Plant is really not that big. I was a little surprised really. Our host described it as a 'Boutique Facility'. He's probably accurate there. All the bikes except the 310 are made here.

Luckily we were given the opportunity to drool over earlier examples of BMW models, like the lovely R20...

And this beautiful R62...

Impressive back room to the coffee shop.

Clearly the coffee is not tectonic with no evidence of plates being involved.
