Drew McPike

Post by Swampy »

Hi all, Drew McPike spoke to me today and has informed me he has Prostate Cancer!!

We spoke at some length about this sad state of affairs for a bloke only in his 50's and he has agreed that I could pass this news on to Club Members for there information and in the hope that you will get yourselves checked by your doctor as it may save one of us in the future.

Drew's brother got Prostate cancer some years ago but it was detected early enough for him to have corrective surgery and he has survived!!

As a result, Drew started getting yearly checkups and was informed a while ago he is in Stage 2-3 which required biopsy samples to be taken.

Luckily tests show the cancer is centralised and has not spread and he will be having an operation on it this September to remove the cause.

Drew seems to be very upbeat about the whole affair and is preparing himself both physically and mentally for the op.

He is in pretty good nick but it will still mean around 4 days in hospital and between 6-8 weeks to recover ( No Bike Riding) so he is racking up plenty of O/T and is putting the money into his Sick Leave to help pay for his time off.

In all it seems that Drew cancer has been found earlier enough for him to achieve a good outcome which hopefully also will include full return to all his physical functions as after all he is still young enough to sow some wild oats!!

So guys, I reiterate that there is no time like the present to get yourselves checked and maybe prevent an affliction that is currently killing 20,000 Australians a year!!

Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

Thanks Swampy for keeping us all in the loop.

Looking forward to Drew's success stories post-op and hasty recovery.

Like Swampy said, Prostate cancer is a big killer of men in our country... GET YOURSELF TESTED regularly :|

I'm sure most of us would prefer a speedy exit on 2 wheels versus from the 4 wheels of a hospital bed... Just saying... no rush...
