As the boredom sets in, here's a little light entertainment that demonstrates the manufacturing process of a product that everyone of us uses every day. Simple, but the engineering is superb, although the subtitle translation is sometimes odd!
Prof Disturbed I was not sure how the burs and flashing machines took away burs and polished the balls.Something about a fixed plate against a rotating plate with spiral grooves on it. Can you explain the physics of what’s going on here. As at this stage the balls have been heat treated to increase their hardness and to get them exactly spherical and polished there most be a form of grinding involved. I fail to understand how the rotating plate with the spirals manages to trim the balls up. Maybe with your vast knowledge would you be as so kind to enlighten one as to “ how is it done” as the eminent Prof Julius Sumner Miller used to say as he went on to explain .

Have seen it before it is actually interesting. I think they put raw balls in /6 gearbox’s they did seem to fail a lot also costed me a lot of money replacing them

Fantastic video, I feel sorry for the person doing the visual inspections.
I made a part for my bicycle on the lathe yesterday, I'm capable of turning perfectly good material into Scwarf ... sometimes the item actually works.

So Mr Profoundly Disturbed, does the next episode explain how they get the balls into a ball bearing,...always wondered about that!

There will be a race to let you know how it is done.

You may well be right, but I'm going to be a little cagey.

Due to public demand, for those of you that asked (BillB and Bowe), and those who didn't (everyone else), a video to show how it's done!
