End of year dinner & Awards

Post by Cookie »

The BMWMCCWA end of year dinner was held at The Victoria Hotel, Toodyay on Saturday 29th November, with majority of members staying locally for the night.

We had a great night of fellowship and reunions, with several new faces and some we haven't seen in a while, in a relaxed setting on a warm evening.

Several nominations were received for each of the club awards, and all were worthy recipients, so names were drawn randomly.

I had the pleasure of awarding Club Member of the year trophy to Guy Davies, for his efforts Hosting Tuning days, Storing Club tools, rescuing members and providing the drinks and BBQ.

And Sportsman of the year trophy to Neville Bent (/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5518), for his efforts (quite often behind the scenes) posting Newsletters, photos and other Website duties, Technical skill with the GS911 tool and software, along with tuning of bikes, a quiet achiever.

A huge shout out to Auto Classic and BMW Clubs Australia, for providing the door prizes totalling ~$800 in value.

Winners on the night were - Mark McInnes - $250 Auto Classic voucher, Hermann Engeliter - $100 Auto Classic voucher, Kim Croft - Cooling Vest, Neville Bent - Shirt, Ian Gill - Shirt, Will Croft - Shirt, Joan Susinetti - Chocolates (her Birthday), Stephen Bell & Maree - Chocolates for their festive outfits and arriving on a motor bike.

Acknowledgement of years of membership, we currently have 146 members in sub 5-year category, 55 in 5 years plus, 37 in 10 years plus,
David Fox Spencer, Chris Grice & David McLelland in 20 years plus,
Rainer Seel and Ross Ashton in 30 years plus,
Ross Currie, Kenny Gwenda, Graham Marshall, Andrew Van Bollgooyen and Ian Gill in 40 years plus, noting Ian Gill will join the 50 years group in a few weeks,
Ian Wright, Robin Morritt, Russell Paine, Dave Lampard and Brian Harvey in the 50 years plus membership categories.

Thank you to all in attendance for making the night a success and as we look forward to what 2026 holds for us.

Kind regards
Graeme Cooke

Hello Graeme,

Good to read the Dinner and Awards night was a great success. I was out galavanting in the bush at the time so was unable to attend.

For the record I lived many years in the USA and Canada before returning to Australia in 1991. In either 1991 or 1992 I purchased a BMW K1200 RS from Motts in Victoria Park. It was there I met Gunther Glassner who introduced me to this club. That was in the order of 33 years ago.

Some 50 years ago I lived in Mudgee NSW and rode with a group of riders from that region. My first return crossing of Eyre Highway into WA was in 1973 and was on a Kawasaki Z1 900… The crossing was a carbonate track from Penong to Eucla at that time. A key fuel stop was Ivy Tanks - now just a memory and some rubble on the old track between Border Village and Nullarbor Roadhouse. That was about the same time Bear and company converged on Border Village.

Cheers,

Raider
