Satisfying the mid-life crisis: F800ST

Hi folks,

I've just joined the forum as I've finally been given the go-ahead by the finance department to get that piece of German I've always wanted. I used to ride a Kwaka GPX250 11 years ago - always desiring the big R & K models. I'm actually still in the process of getting my big-bike licence (R) but I want to make sure I make a well-informed decision. So, who better to ask....

Although I'd like to eventually end up on something like the K1300S (drool), I'd rather not invest too much too early. I've been reading a fair bit about the F800ST and it's been described as perhaps one of the most "sensible" bikes ever created.

Although I really like the idea of the rides/events you have, my primary use will be for commuting to work (~70km per day), with the occasional passenger. I'm about 6'1", and weigh around 100 kg (it is reducing - honest!).

Is there anyone out there in the Club that has experience with this model? I'm obviously interested in ride/handling, performance, maintenance, comfort, fuel consumption, etc. and any advice/opinion you can offer I'd really appreciate it.

Any other thoughts on BMWs in general would also be appreciated.

Cheers, Rob.

I used on of those when my GS was being serviced and was very impressed with the rideability of the 800 motor, great choice of bike for a commuter or 1 up tourer in my opinion.

BTW welcome to the forum and hope to see you out there soon
