Bike shipping

I know I'll cop a flogging for not riding the bike, but there are reasons I can't.....

Anyway, I've been investigating shipping my bike from Perth to Northern NSW. Just thought I'd share a few of the results.

BMW have a pack and ship from dealer to dealer deal, which is quite competitive. Only thing is I then need to get to the nearest dealer 250kms away when I will have a squillion things to do, meaning a 5-6 hour adventure.

I am shipping my 911 with Ceva door-door, and they seem to offer competitive pricing and arrangements. But shipping the bike with them costs about the same ($1700) door-door.

Fergussons Motorcycle have a good reputation and door-door is about $1150. I'm waiting for another quote from a crowd who also do door-door and have specail pallets they mount the bikes in. I'll see how that quote comes in.

Anyone have any other alternatives they'd like to recommend, other than RIDE IT.

Geoff

Try getting a delivery crate from BMW for your bike. Pack her up in the crate then arrange transport of the crate. Backload rates from west to east. This might be a cheaper option for you. Also factor load insurance, loading / unloading. You may get better flexibility with delivery depots going this way. Suggest you try toll, linfox etc that run line haul freight routes from west to east. Best of luck.

I have a metal motorcycle crate at my house you can have if you need one. I shipped the TTR600 Yamaha down from Darwin on it a few years ago. I am not at home at present but it is outside the house if you wanted to collect it. Cheers Noel

Final summary :

BMW dealer-dealer shipping is not a bad option if dealers are close by.
Fergussons was door-door, for me not a bad option saving me 5-6 hours retrieval.

But best of all is BIKE NUT. They have bike pallets (look at their web site) and when it comes to cost for door-door shipping, they are by far the cheapest. Looking at the way they package the bikes, I'd say they'd do a great job. I'll report after the bike is shipped. I can get it picked up at home, and delivered to the new home and unpacked ready to ride.
