How much do you think I should go up to??

Its a hard thing to advise you on.
To but a mototcycle on line is allways a risk, pictures and words can only tell part of the story.
Secondly with a bike of that age/vintage it really comes down to what it is worth to you!
If you intend to fix it up and keep it, then as long as its within your acceptable budget range its worth it. However if you are thinking of what it will be worth on the market should you change your mind and want to sell then who knows. Bikes like that in top condition occassionally appear between 4500 and 9000AUD on advertisements and that does not mean they fetch that price. A scruffy bike is normally at least half that range. I suggest you establish the availability of parts and ask the opinion of a good mechanic. You can also google up similar bikes for sale and check the asking price.

If it were me I would put in a bid with the upper limit set at a price I would be happy to pay. If you get it great!, if you dont then look out for the next one.
