Camp "Cook-Off" 17-18 Oct

Post by toni »

What is it?
An overnight camp for all.
A "camp cooking" competition will be held for those interested (see the rules below).
Prizes for cooks & riders.

Venue
Yornanning Dam:
GPS Reading: 32D 44' 34S, 117D 09' 25E
Driving instructions: Access is via the Great Southern Highway (Route 120) which is Tourist Way 356. Turn west onto Yornaning Road, which is midway between Cuballing and Popanyinning, and follow the road for 300 metres (past the tennis courts and hall). Turn right before the old house. Travel 1 km, and the sign-posted road is on the left. The dam is about 100 metres from here.

Suitable for all campers. No fees. Facilities include gas BBQs, tables & seats, bins, pit & compost toilets, dam water.

Cook-off Rules:
All food and cooking equipment must be carried in on motorcycle
Cooks are to create a main meal - you probably need to make enough for yourself and a small serving for the judges' tasting (paper plates for competition entries will be provided)
You are required to create a main course only
The meal must be created from "scratch" i.e. no prior preparation such as marinating etc to occur outside the camp site
Additional points for teaming it with the 'right' beverage
The meal must be served to the judges' table at 7:00 pm on Saturday night

Riders:
Choose your own route to the event. There will be prizes, so clock your mileage.

Non-riders are very welcome - bring the family! Although all cook-off entrants must bring their gear by bike.

See you there.

Ok, I'm doing as I'm told.

At Monday's meeting I suggested that I would post my departure time so others could join us/me and we could ride up to the camp cook-off together.

I've now been told that we/I are leaving early, near 8 a.m. Saturday morning (I don't believe it). In doing so we'll be able to set up early and secure the camp area for those that ride later in the day. Eric and Tom are also leaving early - there wives are going up by car with a "caravan"

I'm told by the "Boss" that once I've set up the camp and if others arrive and then want to go exploring I can go for a ride. So if anyone wants to come up to the camp site early and go for an afternoon ride, I'll be available :P ........... or I could be on the turps

I don't see any category for my gourmet mushroom and potato chip omelette cooked in virgin chilli olive oil with a glass of Claret. Could this be included in the category list. Its the only thing I'm good at cooking up.... Bill

I can think of a number of categories for that dish, Bill. Although, I think you'll have some stiff competition from Ken.

Is there anyone out there leaving early afternoon, who would like to meet up along the way for the ride out?
Cheers,

Michael’s pumpkin was a winner and I’m sure that every up coming camp event over the next few years will have some variation of it. It was simple, cheap, tasty and easy …. Even I could have done it. Next year I’m doing the same however with a coconut. It’s going to be a winner!!
