On a hot Sunday only four riders were prepared to hit the heated highway.
Reports of molten tar on corners and dehydrated riders doing strange things deterred the cool climate tourists.
Snaga (an out of the frying pan into the fire sort of guy), Jens, Eddie and Bozo faced the heat. I think Jens was keen to ride to try all of the vents out on his new BMW Rallye jacket incorporating a Camelbak. Getting out of town was accompanied by squealing of wheels, swearing and road rage due to a combination of motorists texting at lights ignoring the urgency of those behind.
The group headed through the shaded Bickley Valley running into cyclists on the Mundaring Weir Road and a monitor lizard on Glen Isla Road. They then skipped the traffic on the back roads through Mount Helena and Childow. A deviation via Liberton Road and Mayo Road brought us out onto the Toodyay Road. Snaga's ability to attract animals continued with a ewe and its lamb startling the group as we rounded a corner. Cutting back through Bailup Road and Burma Road the group took Coates Road to Bakers Hill and then the Clackline Toodyay Road. It seemed only sheep and lizards were out on the roads today.
A pie at the Toodyay Bakery on the upper balcony was followed by a quick blast down Toodyay Road (lizards are omnivores).
The temperature had been under 30 degrees in the shaded roads on the way to Toodyay but started out at 35 degrees on the way back climbing to 41.5 degrees around Midland.
As I pulled into my driveway it was 40.5 degrees just in time to grab a cold drink, lie flat on the couch and watch Australia beat South Africa in the Rugby Sevens (its how lizards imbibe).

Good to get out even though the last third of the ride was getting warm, although I do remember a BMW Club ride when the on board temperature hit 48 degrees.
