Lost and Found with failure of Common Sensor

Post by Bozo »

A menagerie of motorcycles left Catalanos this morning to take advantage of the demise of the heat wave to ride to Quindanning.

The 11 riders and one pillion did very well to stay together despite cyclists and traffic in the Perth Hills. The route was Canning Road, Brookton Highway, Gardiner Road, Araluen and Canning Dam to Albany Highway.

The problem arose when part of the group passed three motorcyclists travelling along Albany Highway. These three random motorcyclists turned off to Jarrahdale and the back half of the BMW ride group followed.

Meanwhile Bozo, GS Bill and Trish, Bill B, Eddy and German Paul made it to the lost point at North Bannister where they waited and waited and waited. Interviews with motorists as to whether a motorcycle had broke down or whether a large group of motorcyclists had taken the Jarrahdale turn off confirmed the latter.

The Bozo group pushed on to Wandering then cutting back to Crossman by the Crossman - Dwarda Road before heading to Boddington. Passing through a quiet Boddington the group only struck one vehicle travelling in the opposite direction on the short stretch of one lane road to Quindanning...fortunately the vehicle pulled a wheel off the bitumen to enable us to pass safely.

The romantic cockies had booked out almost every table at the Quindanning Inn for Valentines Day but we managed to find a small table and scrounge a few chairs and kicked back in the shaded area at the back of the pub to enjoy steak sandwiches. About half an hour later the lost group including Jack, Wightman, Giles and Jens arrived after travelling via Jarrahdale and Williams.

Most of the group headed back via the Harvey - Quindanning Road. There was drama with Giles' airhead that had cracked Bakelite in the oil pressure sensor and was spewing oil out over the exhaust and rear tyre. Whilst the crack was getting worse it seemed that the bike would be able to be nursed home by topping up the oil every 70 kms. Giles reported that there was no problem cornering at normal speeds on right hand corners but left hand bends had to be taken with great care.

Jack acted as chaperone and oil carrier for Giles' stricken bike but the sensor crack got worse and the bike had to be parked on the Freeway. Jack headed home and got a replacement sensor from one his part bikes and the sensor was being replaced but in the process was overfilled with oil. A trip to Bunnings for an Allen Key to drain the oil and eventually the bike was sorted.

Brilliant weather for a ride and a really good group. Thanks to Jack for going well out of his way to help sort out the sensor failure on Giles' bike.

I should have been clearer about the proposed route. Sorry guys for the messy ride.
