Goldfields anniversary tour

Post by wightman »

In 2008, we had one of the most enjoyable week-long tours of the Goldfields. Shane, Dren, Ben, JonO, 3 day Kev, Richard Hughes and myself had a cracker of a trip, travelling in a clockwise loop through Sandstone, Agnew, Lake Ballard, Coolgardie and back home. Being a leap year, Shane tried to resurrect the trip in 2012 but we couldn't get dates to suit everyone. So, just throwing it out there.........The time is nigh! Let's do it again. My suggestion would be 4-9 May 2016, giving the lads plenty time to recoup for Cookie's Harvey trip. John 8)

Great suggestion John.

If the dates are slightly flexible, I can do 5 to 10 May (or Thu to Tues of any other 'week'). No worries if they're not flexible cos I'll work on catching the group on day 2 using someones Spot link.

Excellent, 5-10 May is OK for me. I would see an approximate itinerary working like this:
1st night : Paynes Find
2nd night: Agnew
3rd night: Lake Ballard
4th night: Ora Banda
5th night: half way down Holland track

We can accommodate blacktop guys by going main roads (with occasional good gravel sections) and the hardcore, "what is bitumen?" offroad junkies, by having meet up points at 3pm, prior to riding into camp. sunset will be about 5.45pm, so not too radical.

More expressions of interst pls and we can develop things a bit further...........John

Holland Track will depend on how wet it may be...regardless, as usual, changes can be made on the fly.

Yes, maybe safer to nominate the Breakaways as the overnight stop, giving 11 hours to do the Coolgardie to Hyden-Norseman road or the option of doing the Victoria Rock road. Dinga did the whole Victoria Rock road on his kangaroo pelt R75/6 last year.

It's a great suggestion John, I'll put my name down for this. Remember the last ride in 2008 we had to turn back half way down the Victoria Rock roads as we were riding into a storm and the road was turning to mud/grease
This time I think the airhead will get to stretch its legs, what will you ride?

I think I may try my 1988 K75, as it has the "block of flats" storage space. Plenty of toppers, rice and soft pillows

Nice one. What about Chris Grice, Anthony and Dren? Are you men or mice? Squeak up!

At last I can get a leave pass from that much over rated pastime.

I look forward to joining in the Goldfields Anniversary Tour Adventure.

My first group ride for a little while.
