Hello John,
using the prefix "all" I assume that the last half of the /6's were five speed, so therefore your's has a a kickstarter. Q. In your opinion, what would be the best gearbox for my machine, are the top ratio's the same, is one simpler & stronger than the other....ect With my flywheel, that has been easily removed, its the centre boss (5 holes with O ring inside) that I wish to remove.

Hi Guy
Your bike obviously has a post 1981 gearbox with lighter flywheel than /6 and /7. The upshot is that you are limited to gearboxes that have the shorter input shaft. It is possible to replace the input shaft on an earlier gearbox with the later one, but a lot of work for little result.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Thanks for that Dave, I will retain the original box. Do you know of a tool that pulls of the...Main seal guide ring...causing me a bit of a headache trying to remove it, its a common job, so there must be something out there besides bashing, levering, & destroying things.

Guy
I'm sure there is an expensive tool for this job. I replaced a seal couple of weeks ago and just used a pair of multi-grips with aluminium on the teeth gently applied on the nipple that protrudes from the boss. it worked with no damage to it. For the clutch centring tool, I use a socket that fits into the clutch plate and the clutch thrust-rod slides gently through that so that you can jiggle it so that it is centred. The Club used to have the centring tool. If you know a machinist, have them turn you one up. It shouldn't take them long.
cheers
