Ok at least we will be able to follow your dust trails
Re: Goldfields anniversary tour
Yes, 8.30 meet at Gingers sounds like a good idea. We can have a sort of a meet and greet session, leaving at around 9. Then we can head off for Wubin. Some may like to stop off in New Norcia, or the gravel junkies may want to hit the dirt from scratch. Anyway, a 1pm lunch in Wubin should set us up for the final assault on PF. I reckon if we ask Bozo nicely, we might just get a pic of Agnew hotel and the gold battery just down the road. Good weather has been ordered............
Geoff Douglas is also coming along on his 1200GS.

A small group will head off during the ride to the proposed destination for Desert Raid 2017 just to confirm it's suitability.
So much to do; so little time.

All blokes participating in woosy rides, some of the way, will be welcomed. We also have Carl Montgomery, on a F800GS, joining us later in the afternoon.
Weather is looking peachy, with just a hint of a shower, to help get the potblack off the kettle

Re: Goldfields anniversary tour
All good, the bike and I are back home. Thursday mornings ride out of Perth was great, the bike has been running really well. Weather was good scenery spectacular through Chittering. We stopped out side the New Norcia hotel and when I went to start up .... Nada.
Before I explain what caused the problem I would first like to thank a whole bunch of folk who went out of their way with offers of help and assistance.
Dren was on the phone to a mate trying to organise a battery
John W was all set to give me his battery, leave his bike at NN and finish the trip in his van with Leoni and Isabelle.
Chris offered jump starters and tools and called Mike / Ahab who offered to bring a battery from Toodyay or even bring a trailer.
Tom started to pull his F800 apart to swap batteries thinking he could push start his bike and ride home. Only my battery was too big for his bike.
After a half hour of people offering help and encouraging me to dismantle the HPM we agreed it best if they continued on leaving Tom and Jamie who were only accompanying the group this far and JohnW and co who were determined not to leave me behind.
Tom kindly offered to make his way back down the road and look for a battery, perhaps at Bindoon or Midland, he would then bring it back. Jamie had to get going and JohnW's group stopped for lunch before continuing on.
For the next few hours I got back to work (Digger would be pleased) via iPad trying to solve some software problems for work. Then I had another look over the bike and found the culprit. I knew the. That it wasn't the battery at fault.
I had disconnected the VRR (voltage regulator rectifier) to charge the battery - as recommended by the manufacturer of the charging system. When I put the connection back together on the morning of the trip one of the pins in the connector pushed back and left the connection incomplete. So with the alternator pumping out current that had no where to go as it couldn't get to the battery 2 consequences 1. The battery ran flat hence no start at New Norcia and 2 the VRR overheated and cooked. Meaning the charging system would not work even with the connection restored.
Tom arrived back with Gillian and there pet dog in the car. With a new battery fitted the bike fired right up but as expected no charging, so it was pointless continuing north. After a quick refreshment Tom and Gillian covered the bike with a handy tarp and drove me home. We arrived back at 7:15, at 7:30 I headed north with trailer in tow. Loaded the bike and was home again by 10:40
Thanks again Tom and Gillian (who needs BMW Assist). Thanks Alex for offering help by phone, and to Jamie who called to tell me where the riders where " they're camped just beyond Paynes Find JonO, probably just setting up camp and lighting a fire" thanks mate.
Genuinely while not suprised I was still overwhelmed by all the support and offers of assistance. What a great group of people in this club
I have now ordered a new VRR from the US and after several hours been able to resolve the software issues causing grief at work! So while my trip was unfortunately curtailed at least I've had a win there. Now I'll set my sights on the next ride, after all I'm in credit right!

Hello Jon
I have just read the post, you are correct, the club network is very powerful and extends far and wide. When a call goes out there is a flurry of replies, offering assistance.
My bike and gear is arriving home today, mid afternoon, via family network:)
Good to hear it was only a electrical fault.
Regards
