The Blue Light Disco Ride

Post by Bozo »

Catalano's had a strong turnout today with Swampy and Paul back on their bikes, Geoff turning up on a Harley, Ahab arriving with an unwashed 800 GS (since the Border Run), David having electrical problems, Rossco on a Can Am that he carted on a VW from northern New South Wales with a former BMW Club President as a pillion, Graeme on an overwidth vehicle, Jamie with an I-pad that looked like it had been through a concrete mixer, Guy on a shiny bike, Dinga on a rough bike, Jack on an old bike and Wes on a very clean bike.

Jono, Guy and Jack did open heart surgery on David's BMW and located a malignant tumour in the loom but ran out of operating theatre time to fix it.

Eight of the group headed out for a run through the Chittering Valley to Bindoon. BillB, David, Eddy, Jean, Geoff, Swampy, German Paul and Bozo. The group passed through a speed trap and then ran into two motorcycle police near Pearce who split the group. We saw the motorcycle police several times in our trip through the Chittering Valley as we stopped to regroup and they stopped to investigate road side vehicles. We also ran into a police car near Western Range Winery.

Roadworks were underway in the Valley south of Julimar Road with speed limited to 40 kph but only a short stretch of gravel.

Passing the mandatory Road Trains and Overwidth loads on the great Northern Highway we parked up at Bindoon in the new motorcycle bays.

The Bindoon Bakehaus was exceptionally busy but we managed to secure pies and coffee as well as the dress circle seats.

The motorcycle police escorted us out of Bindoon and onto Julimar Road. Here we had to try and pass a 10 vehicle convoy headed by the motorcycle police with a horse float, P Plate driver, vehicle towing a trailer with a quad bike, two other motorcycles and several other nervous 4WD drivers travelling 20 kph below the 110 kph speed limit.

Eventually the police stopped to question a 4WD driver and three of the vehicles turned off enabling us to finally enjoy the sweeping bends of Julimar Road at 110 kph.

Arriving in Toodyay we were stopped at a police road block and breathalysed enabling the two motorcycle police to catch up again. Leaving Toodyay we passed a further two motorcycle police as we headed to Clackline on the Clackline-Toodyay road.

It seemed amazing that there was such a large police presence in the area.

Thanks to Swampy for running Tail End Charlie duties on his H series BMW.

Good to have German Paul back on the Sunday rides.
