A very healthy roll up at Catalanos this morning for the latte lovers.
Good to see Brian on his first ride since his touch of titanium and Wes after being out on the tiles.
Seven riders headed to the hills on their way to York. BillB, GS Bill + Trish, Mackerel Eddy, Swampy, Sleepy Paul, German Paul and Bozo climbed the Lesmurdie scarp an weaved their way through the verdant Bickley Valley stuck for a while behind two cyclists. A very sedate ride along Mundaring Weir Road responding to a rumour of cameras. A brief stop at the recently opened Lakes Roadhouse and some mental gymnastics how to legally get out of the servo. Two parked police bikes added to the tension.
Turning down Yarra Road to get to West Talbot Road the group was quickly on to the free flowing curves. A rough road sign heralded massive potholes that caught one rider unawares. Passing through Beverley the group deviated to the Beverley Top Road for the unique corners on the top of hills. Arriving at York, Swampy disappeared either for fuel or having been stopped by police....fortunately it was the former.
The café was shut but the bakery was open. We positioned ourselves next to two whitefaced Dorper sheep who seemed a little uncomfortable as we ate our meat pies. The Dorper is unusual in that it sheds its wool and like many club members are non selective grazers (they eat anything). Sleepy Paul produced a camera that had a lens that would not be out of place on the boundary of an international sporting event. The bulk of the group swished their way through Spencers Brook and Bakers Hill before receiving the flashing light greeting from a passing Police car. At Mundaring the group split up.
Brilliant weather for riding with few insects and the crops being ready for harvesting. The group stuck together well with only planned separations. The ride was the first time Dorper sheep were discussed in detail by the crew. We seem to choose a ride route that is being targeted by Police.
Thanks to Swampy for his impeccable tail end Charlie duties.
