Backwards through the Bickley Valley

Post by Bozo »

A large number of bikes and riders at Catalanos today with 37 bikes of which 9 were airheads including an immaculate 100RT brought along by visiting Geraldton member, Clayton. Good to see Ariel back and also a big group head out to ride the gravel.

13 riders headed out to run backwards (north to south) through the Bickley Valley and then via Canning Dam to Jarrahdale. Wes, Kim, Rosco, GS Bill + Trish, German Paul, David, Wightman, Clayton, Swampy, Herman, Peter, Braam and Bozo revelled in the perfect riding conditions to head to Millbrook Winery. Not even two massive dump truck trays were able to split the group up as they passed us accompanied by escorts and flashing lights.

At the winery, the group eat the café out of cake and the rest of the group had to cope with roundels of camembert and a yard of biscuits. A variety of travel plans involving hot and cold running facilities, barges, cruise ships and large vessels (for drinking) were discussed. A rider described how a split 5 litre container of oil managed to wreak havoc on the contents of the tray of a ute.

The journey home was past Serpentine Dam and Karnet.

A very relaxed ride with lots of humour and even some tinsel (how many Russian words do you need on the Volga).

Thanks to Swampy for tail end Harry duties for most of the ride (he raced to the front as we headed for home to give Harry some clear air).

Despite having three airheads on the ride there were no mechanical dramas and the only flat spots were throttle related.

An enjoyable day.

Swampy
"I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains.
Of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons, I love her jeweled sea.
Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."
