Coondle Circuit

Post by Bozo »

A healthy turn out at Catalano's including Drew's extensively farkled blue sparkling RnineT/5 and Tim's authentic R100. A new Moto Guzzi attracted a lot of attention sitting amongst the boxer engine powered German bikes.

Ten bikes plus two pillions headed out past the airport to zig zag the hills and do a loop up to Coondle. Peter + Julie, Andrew + Ellie, JC, Ken, DFS, Wes, Nick, Sophie, Peter and Bozo travelled via Chidlow before getting enmeshed in a cycling race striking the peloton in the middle of the Liberton Road chicanes. The group was reduced to 8 riders for a run along Needham, Mayo, Bailup and Burma roads before getting stuck behind a slow moving wide load at Wundowie. An enjoyable run along the Toodyay-Clackline Road, Hoddy Well Road and Salt Valley Road had us with an ethereal view across the Avon Valley on Sandplain Road. The mist/cloud in the valley was opaque white against a blue sky, contrasting with the bright green hills and with the freshly ploughed ground steaming where the sun hit it. River Road was misted in but fortunately no kangaroos were seen.

Heading up the Bindi Bindi Toodyay Road we turned off on the winding Coondle West Road at the Coondle Silos. Lots of mud on the road with much of it hard to judge as to whether it was a stain or a loose surface. A run along Julimar Road and Chittering Valley Road got us to a packed Bindoon Bakehaus. The discussion ranged from Rottweilers to Llamas before we returned home via the Chittering Valley.

A range of weather conditions were experienced from bright sun, dull cloudy skies, light rain, fog/mist, chilly temperatures and warmth. Despite the bike race and four overwidth vehicles it was an enjoyable ride, though the highlight for several riders was counting llamas.

Thanks to Peter for running as tail end Charlie and to DFS for corner marking.

Thanks Bozo for leading us on a new way to travel known roads. Interesting to see the scenery when travelling in the opposite direction to the route normally taken. Weather was so kind to us. Is a low lying cloud still a cloud or mist or fog
