Thursday 20th Jan Mojos Mundaring

Post by brian/5 »

It will be a hot day so will use this as an excuse for not going for a ride from Mojo’s
However, do expect to have an extended ride from Gloria Jeans Ascot up to Mojo’s for the usual morning coffee.

Plan to depart Gloria Jeans 07:45am for any that wish to accompany me.

Three riders departed Ascot for a run up to Mojo’s. A comfortable ride in the low 30’s directly up the Bypass & Roe to Toodyay Road. Then it was a meandering path south along the hills with some great views of the city and a few interesting twists and turns. Once on the Old York Road it was our usual run up through the National Park, Parkerville and then on to Mojos.

Arriving at Mojos we found that there were only two BM’s parked out front but there were four members already seated. The numbers were higher than I expected due to the predicted 40-degree day. The round table discussion mostly revolved around geology and surveying. After the usual social catch up the group broke up with same three electing to head back to suburbia via Mundaring Weir Road, the others individually making their own way home.

On leaving Mojos it was 31 degrees rising to 35 when we had reached Piesse Brook. After looping through Pickering Brook, we stopped for cool refreshments at the Bean 2 Brook Café. Several interesting old historic bikes were parked at the café, one being a Kawasaki Mk III. The distinctive two stroke sound brought back past memories as it departed. Despite having some reluctance both riders followed me through Kalamunda and down the zig zag. I turned off for home at Abernathy Road, with the others carrying on down Kalamunda Rd. Riding past the airport the temperature peaked at 41 degrees. Surprisingly the heat was not that oppressive however I suspect that this was because the exposure was only for a short duration and no stopping for traffic lights.

A suggestion for these days of extreme heat, is that we could leave Ascot earlier and have a longer ride in the cool of the early morning to arrive at the usual time at Mojo’s.

Thanks, guys for another enjoyable morning out riding.

Very good suggestion to leave a little earlier, I've always done the same thing myself, it's worth getting up a tad earlier. For a bit of comfort in the heat a good cool vest works a treat. Thanks for the ride reports too, I'm enjoying reading about your rides.
