What has 4 cylinders and a 900 litre fuel tank?

Post by Bozo »

A good turnout at Catalanos this morning with Frank and Ted dropping in. Raider was just back from a desert raid in a vehicle that needed a ladder to get into it. Equipped with a 900 litre fuel tank (at best it gets 20 litres/100km) it tackled the desert sand dunes with ease.

Seven riders headed south via a circuitous route to get to Pinjarra to sample award winning pies. Dark Ninja Peter, Ted, Rob, Paul, Raider, Water Mark and Bozo did the Pomeroy Road alternative to get to Canning Road then deviated onto Canning Mills Road. Emerging at the Brookton Highway the group travelled past Canning Dam and on to Byford via the Bedfordale Hill. When we got to Kingsbury Drive we were greeted by two large emus right next to the Karnet Prison. A loop from Del Park Road was taken via North Spur to get us to the Pinjarra Bakehouse.

Baudin, Borden, Unimogs, Artesian Bores and Turkish Baths were discussed. (There were mineral baths at the Perth Zoo fed by an Artesian Bore that opened in 1911 and were refurbished in the 1940's)

The run home was via Corio Road, Hopelands Road and Lightbody Road. The ride ended at Thomas Road.

Thanks to a very well behaved group the ride went smoothly. Thanks also to Water Mark for running as tail end Charlie.

Hi Boz,

If you talk to old yachties, they'll tell you that the hot spring down near Tawarri Lodge and the bore that enabled the boab at the Zoo to prosper, are connected. They used tell me that during the winter there was a spot where the warm water leaked up into the middle of the river. It was a great spot for a winter dip in the middle of the river!

I hunted for hours trying to find this spot when I had the jetski. Never did... 8)

Did some research: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dalkeith_Hot_Pool
