Famous Five go Adventuring

Post by Bozo »

There was a time in the 1960's when a group of friends just had to head out into the wide world to have magnificent adventures.

Today a group of friends ventured out into the wide world hoping for no breakdowns or error messages, just the odd cyclist, absence of precipitation and lots of corners with a few new roads sprinkled in.

Medic Mike, Nannup Nick, R90S Mark, DFS and Bozo flew past the airport for a Brian/5 + Peter Bee type run up the scarp to Hardy Road passing seven sleepy kangaroos in the Helena Valley. We took Park Road and almost hit the Parkerville Tavern before taking a new deviation onto Falls Road, Gliddon Road, Duncombe Road and doing the full Wedgetail Road loop, emerging on Highlands Road and getting back to Roland Road. Real secret Hidden Valley business.

A brief stop at a closed Gidgegannup Bakery before tackling Bailup Road and Burma Road to pass the Mens Shed in Wundowie. A southern egress on Inkpen Road (taking care not to get written off) before a Talbot West Road link to Talbot Road. During this run we spotted two groups of emus, one of 17 mature birds and a second of a male adult and 7 large chicks. There had been a lot of rain with flood damage to the road and fences.

Exiting Talbot Road on Cut Hill Road we travelled via the Hospital Access (Trews Road) to get to York before a run through Spencers Brook to a quiet Bakers Hill Bakery.

Whilst we grazed on pies dairy farmer DFS gave us the cradle to grave version of milk production. Fortunately bakery products do not contain Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids that livestock get from grazing on Paterson's Curse so our livers were relatively safe and the only impact to us from Paterson's Curse was the $250 million from lost agricultural production in Australia.

A free flowing run down Coates Road and Government Road via Childlows got us to Mundaring where the ride ended.

A grand adventure with all motorcycles running like clockwork, little traffic and no rain. Thanks to R90S Mark for running as tail end Charlie and a happy group of adventurers.
