Solstice Sunshine Sending Seal Surfaces Shimmering Silver

Post by Bozo »

A small turn out at both C1 and D1 this Sunday with overnight rides running north and east. Great to see Beemer Dave looking in good nick.

Six riders dodged the rain and braved the cold to take a circuitous route to Bindoon. James, R90S Mark, Multimedia Mark, Nick, Peter Bee and Bozo looped past the High Wycombe Station to pass through Kalamunda and on to Mundaring Weir.

With the low Solstice Sun at its furthest position north and the wet roads we were regularly greeted with road surfaces shimmering silver making it hard to pick up detritus on the roads.

The Brian/5 run on Gill Street got us to Parkerville before a run on Roland Road to Toodyay Road. A rear tyre check showed 50% of the tread down to the wires for one rider who decided that he needed some tyre life to get home and to get a new tyre, so he left the group.

After the mandatory woops on Lancewood Road, we deviated on to the recently sealed Botanic Loop at Brigadoon before catching a glimpse of the Avon River rapids as we descended Campersic Road. The boom gates were down on Carmargue Road but we were advised to cross to the wrong side of the road to get through as the train had stopped some distance away from the level crossing. At a stop at Gingers, one of the riders noticed his rear drive was leaking, but it was assessed as safe to go on. The Rockingham District Masters Football Club was on its way to Gingin on board their ex MTT "Bogan Bus" registration 1Dag ...

A short way up the Great Northern Highway, roadworks necessitated us taking the wrong direction around a roundabout. Baulking at the risk Bozo took an alternative path only to subsequently receive ribbing about it being his best detour of the day. Roundabout seemed to woven into every subsequent discussion.

The Powderbark Road link to South Maddern Road was taken to get to Blue Plains Road before a simple run into Bindoon. It was unusual not to see any motorcycles at the bakery on our arrival. After discussions about level crossings and roundabouts the group headed back through the Chittering Valley over the recently completed road bridge. Stuck behind a slow car in a long section of road with no passing, Bozo deviated into Ashmere Drive and took the group for a double loop around a roundabout before emerging on Jenkins Road.

The ride ended at Bullsbrook. Thanks to Peter Bee for running as tail end Charlie and for a mostly reasonably well behaved group.

That would have been a wonderful ride and a fantastic day too as there was no rain and near clear skies. 😃
