11 riders followed me as we took the standard route to reach Orrong Rd. Kewdale, Abernethy Rds took us to the Midland Bypass and the Roe Hwy intersection. As we waited at the lights one of a group of Harley riders heading North on the Roe pulled a huge wheelie, on his full bagger for at least 300m at an almost vertical attitude. Skilled riding but questionable on a double demerits long weekend. We proceeded onto the Roe in a far more steady attitude.
Morrison Rd was our access to the Scarp with a diversion into the recently reopened John Forrest NP. I was expecting more than a change to a one way road with the normal road and lookout the same. We stopped at the lookout to admire the distant
city. The backroads of Parkerville took us to Toodyay Rd and our favourites O’Brien Rd. Unfortunately a fellow motorcyclist had a spill just prior to the National Park turnoff resulting in a road closure and attendance by Police and ambulances. A strange corner to loose it, must have been fanging it.We retraced our tracks to Toodyay Rd and proceeded to Bailup, Burma, Hawke to get to Baker’s Hill and a short toilet break. Spencer’s Brook Rd had us into York at around 11:30am. Whilst the mighty internet showed the Red Vault in Beverley as open, I had some doubts. An unanswered phone call proved it was closed. Fortunately one of the new riders Mark lived in York and suggested the Flour Mill Café. A poll of the remaining 7 riders agreed to test this new to us Cafe.
A wise choice as we enjoyed good quality food and drinks sitting at a shaded table with a mild breeze and high twenties temperatures. Of course we had to take the Talbots to head home, finishing the ride at the Lakes.
