GS Jackaroos take on the Gauchos

Post by KoosWA »

As some of you may know, five of us are travelling to South America on New Years Eve to try and follow the Dakar Rallye from Saturday 5 January for two weeks.

Here is the link to my Mapshare page that you can track our whereabouts and progress.

https://share.delorme.com/KoosvanRensburg

Kawasaki KLR 650's will be the hopefully willing steeds and the challenge is around 8,000 km through Argentina, Bolivia & Chile with another 5 days after the Rallye finishes in Valparaiso to meander South and back to Argentina and finish in Neuquen, flying back to Buenos Aires.

Compañeros for the trip are Bowe, Chris G, JP and Anthony.

Enjoy it fella's. 8)

Very jealous.

Remember, if riding in dusty conditions, you'll need to clean the KLR air filter daily.

JP. The air filter is the thing that filters the air that comes thru the air box. The air box is attached to the carb. The carb is ............ This is just getting to hard.
Just get one of the other guys to do it for you.

Hi Koos

Not sure if you're aware, Mapshare seems to suggest you're still in Buenos Aries - unless you are of course!

No photos yet?

Shhhhh.....don't tell the wife's / partners.

Just joking. Have a look now, been dropping a point every hour.

Having a great time. Watched two special stages. Very hot...high 30's and 40 today! But rivers and hotel pools make it bearble.....and cerveza.

Rode with the bikes for 150 km on the transport section to the first days special stage. Marc Coma an other KTM riders. Watched cars special in one area and truck in another.

On our day two rode the same pass route as the competitors....awesome ride and one I have long wanted to do.

Watched bikes and early cars in special in riverbed today (day 3) then on transport section to San Juan passed by a few cars....Minis, BMW X3 and Nissan.

Tomorrow on to Chilicito after an early morning start and special about 120 Kim's away.

All well and in good health. Bikes good....except for mine that kissed a rock on the pass, but still going.

Cheers

All done.....finished....terminada!

7,500 km's .....all safe and well.

Heading to Buenos Aires tonight for two days before the long haul back to Perth.

The last few days have been a bit cold and wet with snow in the mountains around Villa de Angostura. Luckily we booked into a great mountain chalet with fire and heaters to dry gear .... And great red wines!

See you soon.
