Guess what Dren has gone and done.... put a deposit on one of those new fang dangled AT's! Doubt if he'll have it by early May though. The bugger beat me to the punch.

Re: Goldfields anniversary tour
AT = Africa Twin
A cheap underpowered competitor for the 1200 GS
Selling for around $16,000 they have a 1 litre motor.

I realise your tongue is planted firmly in your cheek old boy.Bozo wrote:AT = Africa Twin

However I find it interesting, and a touch curious, that a bloke who has owned R1200GS & GSA since 2008 as well as a HP2 Enduro for the last 2-3 years (and has ridden them into places most club members wouldn't dare) took one ride on the new AT and declared it an instant winner, worthy of his money - his words were "deceptively light, super smooth gearbox, heaps of power and grunt, great handling on-road". Trust me when I say this, Dren is one of the great procrastinators of all-time. For him to pay a deposit on one immediately after a test ride is nearly unbelievable.

Shane
I have never forgotten my Honda XL 500 with its brilliant sand capability and have been watching the new Africa Twin very closely.
Very interested to see how they perform.

We will put the RFDS and ambulance on standby.
As it is traffic-able roads by two wheel drive vehicle the BMW roadside assist should be on standby also.
All set for a good ride!

Re: Goldfields anniversary tour
I will get together a bit of an itinerary and forward to all riders participating, as it is only a month away. I would suggest an 8.30 departure from Gingers on Thursday morning. There is a German girl, on a one year gap year. I am looking for a LAMS bike for her to use. She wants to see the Goldfields before returning to the Vaderland. Her parents have participated in several long distance vintage bike events, including America's cannonball run and the 2012 Perth to Sydney. Guy, get your gearbox fixed and put your name on the list.

Looks like I'm a maybe at this stage, unless I punch the boss in the mouth and quit, I may be committed to work, that's always an option.....
