Just a tad drier than last time I was at Arkaroola. Brachina was brilliant. Stayed at Parachillna for two days...good memories. Enjoying your blog.

Bozo
Dry indeed...not even a trickle in the Bunyaroo (?) Gorge which I think traditionally is the last place to dry up.

A custom built trailer that is their mobile workshop, bike trailer (for breakdowns) and even has a rooftop camper on top. Trailer cost $45,000 to build.

Image
That same trailer the following day while in transit to Mt Dare. Total loss including three motorbikes, all the spare tyres (including mine) and all fuels, oils and lubricants along with most of the mechanics tools.

Image
The driver (a mechanic) was able to unhitch the trailer with the Ranger suffering minor damage.

The heat was so intense, the drivers door trim started to melt. Lucky we didn’t lose the Ranger as well. Brave driver who suffered minor burns.

G'day Digger,

Puts an entirely new slant on "OFF ROAD MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURES". Hell of a smoke signal!

I'll bet that has put a damper on proceedings.

And the track between Finke and Alice is still to come.

Raider

Ol’ mate had a front puncture. I carry an Enduro stand to get the front or rear wheel off the ground but in the absence of logs or large rocks, your only option is to lay the bike over for wheel removal.

Image
The proposed route for this trip...currently at Uluru. I think the organisers have been a bit ambitious trying to achieve the distances and still smell the roses along the way.

Sounds of Silence Dinner after sunset viewing of Uluru.

From here we need to change the proposed itinerary to allow for a major rain band that will hit on Thursday. We will slab it to Coober Pedy and remain there for two nights.

They canned that road (Ghan Heritage Trail) and just as well. Even the track into Lambert’s Centre created dramas for those few who tried it....I did warn them. They believe me now.

Underground camping at Coober Pedy...it is surprising how the sound of blokes farting and snoring all night reverberates off the walls underground.

Image
Underground Serbian Orthodox Church...does that mean there is such a thing as an Unorthodox Church? I’ve never really understood religion.

This is what it looks like in an underground Serbian Orthodox Church (as opposed to an Unorthodox Serbian Church.

Same church...looking rearward.

The local cemetery...you can learn a lot about a communities history by touring the local cemetery. In this case, all these people died from something.

From here, we slab it to Port Augusta and attend a farewell dinner Thursday evening. The weather is becoming very threatening with risk of rain which will make all unsealed roads impassable. From there, I will head west along the Old Eyre Highway, Old Coach Road and Hyden/Norseman Road and hope to be back in Perth by Monday or Tuesday.

Orthodox/unorthodox...I know my cue to chip in and explain it in motorcycle terms.

The term Orthodox Church emerged after the Great Schism of 1054 to differentiate a group of break away churches from the Catholic Church. (schism is like what happened to your fuel tank/windscreen...a big split). 1054 is a date not a displacement though it is close to the Africa Twin displacement of 998cc.

The Serbian Orthodox achieved autocephalous status in 1219. (autocephalous is like Anthony's suspension...not firmly connected to anything but having the same label as the separated parts and causing a lot of grief when it separates)

To religious scholars the opposite to orthodox is heterodox which is a spark plug gap away from heresy. Heterodoxy is espousing the virtues of an Africa Twin or DR whilst purporting to be a BMW Club member. Selling your motorcycles and buying a push bike is closer to heresy.

G’Day Slackers,
I left Port Augusta Friday morning (late) and expected (hoped) to take 4 days returning to Perth while doing some unsealed roads and tracks. The weather however dictated that I stick to the blacktop and so I am now keen to get the journey over as quick as I can. Currently (Saturday night) at Madura and will be home late Sunday.
Happy Father’s Day!!!!

Image
Me, leaving the underground camp site at Coober Pedy on the last day of the supported trip. I heard a thunderstorm roll in around 4am and figured the driest place for my bike was underground. It only rains in CP about three times a year.

Image
Woomera...just a fleeting visit. I’ll get back there one day and have a good look around.

Image
The Old Coach Road from Eucla to Madura...unfortunately, after 20 km I came across this sign and thought it might be best if I turned back. The track was already sodden and there was a rain band approaching. Didn’t want a repeat of three years ago when Jamie and I got screwed over by the conditions.

See you on the other side.
Back to work Slackers.

To be honest, I'm not sure that Permits are a Police issue (feel free to chime in anybody???). Before he left he said 'normally it would involve a Court appearance' but he decided to let us off 'with a warning'. I will apply for a permit when i next use that road (cause there will be a next time...great road for AdvRiding) but i bet my left testicle it will not be approved if it is actioned at all. We did have the Permits for Great Central Road so that may have convinced him that we are not completely rogue and we did make some effort.

The cups...my attempt at loosening people up. Can't take things too seriously (can we)?
