Melbourne to Perth

Post by bmwlefty »

I got back home about 6pm today (Sunday 6th Jan)
I picked up my 2007 K 1200LT from Ross (my Brother)'s place in Melbourne and travelled with him to Anglesea near the start of the Great Ocean Road
Left there Thursday morning and travelled to Murray Bridge. Friday, Ross headed back to Victoria, and I continued up through 50 degree heat through South Australia, and down to meet up with Mike Stothers in Streaky Bay.
Saturday, we headed West, got to Balladonia about 13 hours later (1,122 k's) Long, hard day, but slightly cooler
Sunday, about 10 hours to home through humid 30 to 35 degrees, and some light rain.

The bike is GREAT, my backside may take a few days to recover.
I will send a detailed story and pics to the Editor

Her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me."

I didn't say anything before as i was due in Perth on the 3rd and bringing a car back.... but i found a Car ferry that operates out of wallaroo in SA... cuts out about 4hrs of driving....... saves onnly about an 1hr or so on time due to loading etc..... bit this is the way to go if your going to SA or back to WA.

Relaxing and you get to see other parts of SA that you wouldn't normally see

Nice effort Lefty. I thought that the average time you spent on a bike was 30 years? Still keeping the purple rocket for Peaceful Bay weekend/ picking up supplies from the nearest shop? John

Unfortunately, John, I won't be able to keep the 2 bikes going, so after some minor repairs, the Lilac Limousine will be up for sale.

Hi Gerardo
I stayed in Motels and Hotels on that trip.
I am not sure about camping sites.
You could use some of the 24 hour stops [P] along the way
Frazer Range Caravan Park ( about halfway between Balladonia and Norseman) has camping from about $25

Norseman Hotel has single rooms for $40, and good food as well

I hope this is helpful
Cheers
Lefty
