Where the Bloody Well Are You Honky Nut

Post by Bozo »

A very elite group turned up for Breakfast at Catalanos this morning. The discussion ranged from the value of insurance to the origin of the word honky nut.

For the non West Aussies honky nuts are the large fruit pods of the Marri Tree (Red Gum).

They are one of the largest gum nuts in the world.

These can be used to "tonk" others by hitting them on the head or can be hit around in a game of "hockey nuts".

They are a key food of Cockatoos, Parrots and Corellas

The origin of the name may be a corruption of hockey nuts or come from the honky tonk sound of falling nuts hitting corrugated iron when cockatoos are feeding.
