Hello Richard
There are a number of people preparing for the Border run, come along to Breakfast on any Sunday or July club meeting to connect with fellow riders, I won't be doing the run this year - but will be riding from Victoria to South Australia to meet up with a couple of riders heading east from the Border and then riding with them back into Victoria.

I get werd looks from tourists when I am towing a camper trailer behind the motorbike and I get werd comments from Dutch tourist saying it is illegal to tow camper in Europe then they stat to video the motor bike and camper set up and email mail it of to there mates in Europe , the looks I get from tourist from over seas priceless . The One thing I have to be mindful is its only 100 kl per hours when towing any trailor in WA .
Questin what time is the BBQ held at the border or breakfast on Sunday?
Kind regards from richard

Hi all,
I am considering the Border Run but would like to hear from the more experienced riders who have gone that way before, if my F650GS would be suitable for the trip, as I dont have any idea what route would suit it best. This is taking into account that one could get there "by any way" apparantly.
Steve's productions are excellent, but I wonder if my bike would keep up with the 1150sand 1200s pictured there. I know, I know, I need a bigger bike, but all said and done, the 650 is what I have now, so that wil have to do.
Any advice please
Herman

Having just spent a couple of days riding a F650gs(800 motor) - take any road you want to the border - they are a great bike. Did the run to Melbourne 18months ago, I was on 1200gs and other rider with a F650gs , no worries on the open road at beyond legal speeds for long periods and we went through Hyden to Norseman on the dirt. Dont sell that baby they are good. Rob

Hi Herman,
I did the Border run 3 times on my old 600/6. The only problem I had was the head-wind, on the way home. Your 650 should have no problems
The last 2 times I did the run was on a K1100LT. Much better ride !
6 months ago I came through the border on a K1200LT. That was even better !!
All of my border runs have been on the bitumen, so I can't advise on the dirt roads
Enjoy the ride, whichever way you go
Cheers
Lefty

You'll have no problems with the 650, Replay did it last year with no problems at all, just wish I had his fuel economy.

Hello Herman
I have done 3 Border runs plus trips across on my R1200RT, your 650 is very capable by road or part dirt, people have done the trip on postie bikes - so you have nothing to worry about.

Hi Herman
Did a run up to Cervantes and return today on a 650GS. The 650 will do the Border Run with ease.
