Anyone going to the OCR at Drysdale in August?

Post by _Wilks »

Drysdale Station, Kalumburu Rd. Sat 9th August 2014.

I'm gunna to spend a couple of weeks in Karratha before heading on to this years OCR so I'm trailering two HP2's up to Karratha (or Broome). The other HP2 owner (Dren) is gunna fly to wherever the bikes are taken off the trailer.

If there's a bunch of you blokes coming thru the Pilbara on your way to the OCR, then...

My plan A can be something like this (subject to whatever you guys plan to do):
- Unload bikes at Karratha
- Dirt ride over to Tom Price or Hamersley Gorge or Auski Roadhouse etc to meet up wherever you guys are
- From Auski, shoot up GNH 100kms and then turn NE to take the Woodstock Road (good dirt) to Marble Bar
- Shay Gap Road then Boreline Road (all good dirt) and come out on GNH 95kms short of Sandfire Rhse
- Drysdale
- group decision on any detours between Sandfire and Drysdale... eg Broome or not; which gorges on GRR etc
- dates for this plan? Depending on group size, detours and pace we'd need between 4 & 5 days from Pilbara to Drysdale. Say, be at Auski by late morn Tues 5 Aug.

or

My plan B could be:
- Trailer bikes to Broome
- Meet you blokes at Roebuck or Willare

I lived in the Pilbara and Kimberley for 13 years so if anyone would like some ideas, I can help put together a pretty good itinery from the Pilbara onwards, whether it coincides with my plans or not.

I recently retired  from the gnarly stuff for two reasons - 1) questionable ability and 2) buggered knees. That means I'm only taking good/maintained dirt roads from now on.

So who is doing what? Lets start planning.

Retired??, So you'd be selling the HP2 then?
Any room on the trailer for a small GSA 1150?

Would love to Richard. Its a MX bike trailer. But I've had to modify it to squeeze two fat pigs on there by pushing one out onto the A frame. Couldn't get a 3rd one on. The pots hang into the space where, if they were all mx bikes, the 3rd bike would go.

Can you get your hands on a bigger trailer?

Sell the HP2??

I was going from the Border Run up to Alice and then the Tanami...I expect there will be a bit of traffic on the Tanami for the same reason. Backtracking to Perth was not in my planning. There might be some others interested in going via Alice and the Tanami so i might make that my focus. If i get insecure about travelling alone then i may be in touch. :|
