REGISTRATION: FREE, Club members, partners, and family welcome. This will be a fun weekend for everyone

CAMPING AND FACILITIES: $10.00 per person paid at the event

FUN COMPETITIONS: Gold Coin entry at the event
WHAT TO BRING: Everything!

CAMP COOK OFF - THE 2014 SCENARIO

Club members were getting so good at cooking a gourmet meal first night out from home that we’ve had to make things a bit more challenging this year!

IMAGINE: You left home on your motor cycle three days ago. You’ve travelled way out bush. There are no shops anywhere along the route. You’ve taken ingredients with you that are suitable to be packed in your gear for three days without being refrigerated. It is the end of your third day on the road when you arrive at our camp site.

YOUR MISSION: To cook a main meal to impress from ingredients that have been packed in your gear and have travelled on your bike with you for three days. Your main meal must: be safe to consume; be nutritious; look good enough to eat and taste great.

THE RULES
•1. To enter the 2014 BMW MCC WA Camp Cook-Off you must be a current financial member of the club. Non-members are not eligible to compete or win prizes in this competition.
•2. Entrants to the 2014 Camp Cook-Off must carry all their camping gear, cooking ingredients, cooking utensils and cooking equipment to the camp site on their motorcycle.
•3. Meal preparation may commence from 4pm and cooking must be completed by no later than 6.45pm.
•4. Entrants must display their cooking ingredients, utensils and cooking equipment for the judges to view (marks will be allocated for suitability of ingredients for use three days into the trip), prior to commencing preparation of the main meal.
•5. Your main meal must be created from ‘scratch’ i.e. no prior preparation such as marinading etc. is to occur outside the camp site.
•6. As a minimum, you need to cook enough to feed yourself and a small portion for tasting by the judges.
•7. Your main meal must be presented to the judges for tasting between 6pm and 7pm.
•8. The judges will not tolerate much bribery. The judges’ decisions are final and will not be negotiated.

CAMP COOK OFF - JUDGES SCORING GUIDE

Contestants will be awarded points for the main meal they prepare based on the following:
•· Suitability of ingredients to cook a main meal after being packed on the motor bike for three days of riding.
•· Use of ‘basic’ ingredients only i.e. no pre-prepared ingredients or commercial mixes (eg: pancakes made from scratch rather than from a packaged commercial mix).
•· Nutritional value of your main meal – remember that there are five food groups that should make up your meal.
•· Planning and presentation of your meal.
•· Creativity.

WHAT ABOUT THE MOTORCYCLES?

Choose your own route to the event pending your penchant for the dirt or bitumen. It is a good idea to clock your mileage – there might be a prize to be won.

Sealed road riders – if you travel via bitumen on the Goldfields Road, turn south onto the Carter Doodenanning Road, then there is 1km of good gravel road from the turnoff into the Doodenanning Road to the Hall site. (Same applies if you travel via the Quairading York Road, then Doodenanning Mawson Road, then left onto Doodenanning Road).

Non-riders / non-members are very welcome. Why not bring your partner or the whole family along? There’s ample camping space and access to flushing toilets and running water! Even some man-made shelter if required.

PRIZES

Each year our sponsors donate a range of great prizes that members entering the Camp Cook-Off are eligible to win. In past years prizes have included camping gear, apparel, professional services and the major prize of a motor bike jacket. Be in it to win it and when you can, please support the Club’s very generous sponsors.

This year we will also have some ‘fun’ competitions for everyone – entry by gold coin – with more prizes to be won.

Bill and Nev will be leaving the northern suburbs for the cook-off around 10.30- 11. We will be travelling via less travelled roads ( some unsealed gravel roads mixed with back roads to the venue, arriving at about 2-3 pm)
If anyone wants to join us we will be meeting at Nev's place for a start point and leaving no later than 11am.
If interested give Nev or Bill a ring to let us know you will be tagging along.

Just finished unpacking, arrived home minutes after it started raining.

Thank you Anthony and Trish, for organising a great event, it was well attended with a wide range of dishes on offer, the imposing weather did not seem to be much of a deterrent 8)

Another great Camp Cook-Off... :P

Thanks to Anth and Trisha, our Judges President Jon O, Judge Jacqui Hughes, Judge Gabriel Fouche (France) and all my fellow camp-cookers who participated in a most entertaining weekend.

A big thank you to our sponsors: Auto Classic BMW Motorcycles; MainPeak; Paddy Palin; Nedlands Dental Centre; Motorad Garage; Munich Motorcycles; Catalano's Cafe and of course, ourselves, the BMW MC Club of WA

Made it home with the last 2 kilometres shared with that storm front. I absolutely love the exhilaration of riding in stormy weather. You know that you are alive 8)

Now... the results of the Cook-Off cam.

My contribution to the camp cook-off culinary history

2014: The Rules - What you could cook after 3 days in the bush on a motorcycle from the provisions that one could reasonably be expected to have available.

My effort: Curried noodles with cacciatore, chickpeas, capsicum, peas, carrots, tiny 'tatas and fresh parsley (kept in a brown paper bag). Curry powder, tomato paste and Willy's Chilli to taste.

The Brown Brothers Port, as one would expect by the 3rd day, is almost empty

Entre - Crackers, Olives and cheese sticks. Lemons for a little extra zest... and hand washing later

Image

The last time I was on my knees like this, it got me a fantastic prize who has shared my life journey... :P
However, this is the demeanor that camp cook-off judges like to see...
