Apply For Your Leave Now...Border Run and Beyond - 2015

G'Day Slackers,
I am toying with the idea of attending the Border Run (getting there by some obscure tracks) and then heading North to the Trans Australian Railway line. From there I intend to head East and follow it into SA and thru to the Stuart Highway. From there it is a little fuzzy (maybe explore the Flinders Ranges / Eyre Peninsula). I would guess i would be coming home via the Great Central Road. The only thing that could impact on the dates would be when the GS Safari and Enduro are being held which has not been decided yet.
I'll keep you posted. 8) :P

Digger, Always good-to-go for the Border, the Great Central Road and points between... I too plan on extending the journey from Border Village in 2015. The Trans Australian Railway track has piqued my interest for some time. Looking forward to seeing how your ideas develop. Could be interested in joining you for at least the railway track... Thanks for the heads-up. Raider

Tom
It wont be for 'big bikes' (or at least not for me).

Have a look at a RR from a guy on a F800 (starts page 52) to get an idea on conditions. Fuel will be an issue but i have carried 55 litres plus before so are not too concerned about the logistics.

Bump...

And...

A few months have passed and some of the 'fog' is lifting on this idea. I plan to ride the TAR road from Kal to 'Reid' and then drop down to the Border Run. From there i will return to the TAR and continue on into SA to the Stuart Highway (or at least to Kingoonya for fuel and head south from there). Then the plan will be to visit the Eyre Peninsula (and if time permits the Flinders) and return to WA via the Great Central Road. If i time it right i should be able to attend the races at Gascoyne Junction.

If you're interested in tagging along then start getting your s*** organised.

Departure date would be on or about Wed 29th July.

Back to work Slackers.

At $3.70 a litre for fuel at Forest make sure you have enough to get you through. Heard stories of $250 to fuel a sidecar

Yeah, already factored that in...I only need another 7 litres or so to see me thru to the border after Forrest so will take all I need and then some to go Kal to the Border without resupply. 788 km from Kal to the Border from what I can tell. Thankfully I'll burn a lot of the fuel off before hitting Rawlinna and the knarly stuff so the weight of the additional fuel will not be too much of a burden (famous last words)

I think that I will take the Aussie Flag to the Border this year. Plan at present is to leave Karragullen (corner Canning and Brookton Hwy) at 9.00 am SHARP, on Friday 31 July, so as to get to Hyden for lunch/quick pint. Then it is just a short hop to the BMWMCCWA unofficial campsite at the Breakaways. Saturday will be spent getting to the other fabled spot on the 90 mile straight (for further consumption of supplies and general merrymaking).

On Sunday I think I'll take it easy and stay over at Fraser Range, between Balladonia and Norseman, leaving for the big smoke on Monday. Nobody in the big, dirty city will even know we've been away. Any newbies keen to take up the challenge/adventure are welcome to tag along. Bring a rainsuit just in case. John

I agree. What was meant I think was Saturday was leave the Breakaways at 4:00 am to travel the 900km to get to Border Village by mid afternoon passing the other camping ground when the rabble were just rousing.

Not much point getting to Border Village on Sunday.....all the far riders will have left.

Good to see somebody is awake.

8am from Karragullen on Friday, should get us to 90 mile straight before dark. If Guy is with us, we'll find the spot straight away
