Prelude Ride for the Dockers Season Opener

A group of five riders headed off from Dome, part of the tiny turn up that made it to the alternative venue for Sunday Coffee.

The five riders included two pillions - Winston with Swampy and Gill with Snaga, who together with Dinga, German Paul and Bozo took a slow ride past Canning Dam to Albany Highway. After a short wait at the junction of Canning Dam Road and Albany Highway Drew joined the group.

A quick transit on Albany Highway to North Bannister was followed by the twisting road to Wandering where it was discovered that Swampy had lost his pillion and Dinga had a headlight hanging by a single bolt. After quick repairs by Dinga and a limited amount of sympathy to Swampy we headed to Pingelly.

At Pingelly we were too early for the pies and had to resort to other calorie filled options. A BMW rider (Steve) on an 1100GS joined the group as we rode through Brookton and Beverley coming back along the West Talbot Road. I think Steve, a Bulldogs supporter, just wanted an audience to gloat to.

Very little traffic, great riding weather and a group that all rode at a similar pace.

Commiserations to Swampy on losing man's best friend but he may turn up a little worse for wear (like Donks).

An enjoyable ride returning to Perth just in time to turn on the TV and watch Port Adelaide get a jump start on Freo.

Another terrific ride Chris, Thanks for organising this one of over 350 ks. of our beautiful countryside.

Very saddened however with the loss of my beloved Winston who was having his first outing since the Black Dog ride a couple of years back.
Mans best friend had spent the last couple of years sitting by my side on my armchair until after hearing of Donks resurection I decided to give a taste of fresh air on the back of Baby Blue. Lovely to know he was always their by my side in the evenings, My best mate who cost nothing in Vet bills, food or any maintenance for his well being. Now lying broken on the side of the Wandering Road wondering if he will ever return to the security and safety of home?

The loss was mollified a little knowing I was in good company of riders again, Albeit with very limited sympathy on this dark day of my loss.

Felt a little more upbeat after having a chicken salad sandwich and having a nature break in Pingelly where I bumped into an old workperson I knew of many years who try as they could, the Department could not sack or rid itself of for love of money.

I refueled at The Lakes after completing 330 ks of fairly spirited riding on the backroads and Baby Blue sucked up only 14 litres of nourishment of Iraqs best and only succulent.

Thanks all for the great ride and easygoing company.

Swampy

PS. Also news for all you detractors this morning,My beloved Mrs Swampy was also rapt in my gifts of only slightly melted Easter Bunniies.(Thank you Dome and German Paul)
