Long Weekend Road Warriors

The pagan sacrifice in Toodyay meant a very small breakfast gathering and only four bikes made up the Sunday Road Ride group....Bill and Pat, Wes, Karl and Bozo.

The standard southern exit route of Lesmurdie, Karagulllen, Araluen and Canning Dam was followed by Nettleton Road, Serpentine, Rapids Road and North Dandalup. A quick scoot through Alcoa Road to North Spur Road and we were in a crowded Dwellingup....motorcycles everywhere. A mandatory pie had to be a pastie for some as supplies ran out. Off through Nanaga to Waroona, a deviation at Coolup then Hopelands Road/Kargotich Road home.

A bit of excitement at Byford Caltex where an old Volvo was threatening to burst into flames and the fire brigade were spreading kitty litter. Eventually the Volvo was escorted home between the Fire Truck and the Fire Tender with lights flashing

One rider was temporarily lost but was found after the ride had ended....Bozo's score for 2014/15 is 5 riders lost, 3 riders found.

A great ride on roads with little traffic in brilliant weather. Bill's new tyres are well and truly scrubbed in for next week.

Yes, you are right, Bozo, there is a room in the 4th dimension, full of odd socks, 50 cent coins and two BMW riders. Now who would they be? Wes and Sprocket??????

It is generally my enthusiasm to accelerate away and poor counting skills that sees a rider displaced from the pack on the "informal" rides each Sunday.

It would not be fair to name the five but four went riding on Sunday to Beverley and the two that made their own way home were also on that ride.

The reasons that I attribute to losing the riders were:

- poor planning leading to an extensive stretch of gravel (mea culpa) and one rider turning round
- mechanical failure of the tail end Charlie (mea culpa)
- another mechanical problem causing a rider to leave the group in the metropolitan area and the rider who went looking for him missing the pack (mea culpa)
- a rider not listening to instructions and riding past bikes corner marking (found eventually)
- excessive speed by a rider not seeing bikes corner marking (we all went looking for him and found him at a café in York)

It has mainly been my fault.

I suspect quizzing the four will not lead to an increase in paired socks or the discovery of a cache of 10mm sockets safely hidden in the fourth dimension.
