Mixing Bitumen and Gravel - rash decision?

Six hardy scrooges turned up at Catalano's this morning mumbling Christmas in July bah humbug.
Only Wes and Bozo were keen on a ride and knew they would have to carry the club tradition of a bitumen ride and a gravel ride. The BOM Radar was duly consulted and it looked OK to venture down Brookton Highway to Metro Road.
There were a surprising number of trail bikes out in the first 10 km of Metro Road which was in that rare state of being dust free and only limited mud.
It had also been freshly graded which was great in some sections but in others it meant rocks and debris in a soft windrow in the middle of the road

The misty conditions meant kangaroos were active and we spotted three that jumped across the road in front of us.

We turned off Metro Road onto a two wheel track and conditions got a little challenging with erosion gullies, sand, rocks and loose surfaces.

A quick blast up the Albany Highway and a deviation to Jarrahdale for a snack and a coffee. Very few motorcycles out today...not as committed as BMW riders.
Back along Nettleton Road and it started steady constant rain. The memories of an enjoyable ride through the bush were just about washed away and the erratic behaviour of Perth drivers in the wet became more challenging than a steep track with erosion gullies.
Good to get the GS's out into the gravel...great that they were washed on the way home.
