How hard is it to get home from Dwellingup

Another brilliant Sunday and 8 riders and a pillion left Cat's for a short southern sojourn before the WA Derby.

Ken, David, GS Bill + Trish, Swampy, Dinga, Sleepy Paul, Terri Anne and Bozo did the Lesmurdie, Araluen, Canning Dam, Byford run to Dwellingup.

Stunning weather with early clumps of Leschenaultia, Wattle everywhere, bottlebrush making the bush alive with colour.

After Coffee and Cake, Bozo, Sleepy Paul, GS Bill + Trish and David thought that they would explore offroad tracks between Dwellingup and Albany Highway.

All of the maps showed North Road running from Spur Road to Albany Highway.

The first section to Torrens Road was excellent with little standing water and minimal mud. Soon we emerged on to an Alcoa bitumen road and thought that an 11 km transit and we would pick up North Road again but we ended up in a mine site. Retracing our steps we thought we would take a shortcut to Del Park Rd at Torrens only to be on the wrong side of a locked gate. A trip up a side track came to a dead end and we headed back to North Road. 60 km later we were back where we started at Spur Road.

OK so Bozo had tested the new Mitas E70's on gravel, GS Bill had piloted his pillion through some suss tracks, Sleepy Paul had got some offroad time on his new 800 GSA and David had revisited his old workplace.

It was good to run the GS's in the bush but frustrating to have to retrace our steps three times.

Got back just in time for the Derby to start.
